PIC's Of New Quad-Rail On My Mini Draco

I lied, I said in another thread that I was finished with my Mini Draco. Well, I just couldn't live with the "hot-dog bun" the factory calls a handguard. I purchased a Sightmark Quad Rail from Cheaper Than Dirt for something like $49 (before shipping) and it just came in last night. I cut about an inch off the front just to get the lower portion to fit on the receiver. I then cut an inch and a half off the front of the top portion which got me close. I chucked a belt sander upside down in a work bench and started to slowly sand down the top portion until it just fit the bottom handguard just clearing the front sight. When bolted together the top portion pushes against the sight tower and the back of the bottom portion pushes against the receiver. I then took the two halves off the Draco, bolted them together and sanded down the lower portion until it was fluse with the top portion. I had to drill and tap two new holes because I cut off the front portion that had the two bolts. Instead of using the stock bolts I went with two button head screws with the same threading. I think it looks a lot cleaner with these new screws up front. I touchup painted the end of the rail with high heat engine paint in flat black.

After installing rail pannels and a hand stop, I think it came out pretty well. It is rock solid and will probably stay that tight for years to come.

Gear sector handstop looks smaller than I thought it would. Do they come in different sizes? What's your impression of it maddog?

The Gear Sector is just the right size. Any bigger would be over-kill. It is more then large enough to stop your hand from sliding forward. I have one on my 7.5" Noveske Diplomat chambered in 8.6 SPC and have just been fine for the past three years.

Is the rail solid enough to mount an optic on? I ordered mine from J&G a few minutes ago, can't wait to get it and sbr it.

Very nice look you have there- how does she shoot? I prefer the Vortex flash hider myself- the fireball and shockwave like with the brake you have must be intense. And any plans to SBR it? My compliments on your improvising and handywork- very nice Sir.

No plans to SBR it. I have 6 SBR's already along with a couple SBS's and a DD but no pistol in a rifle caliber. The thing I don't like about AR pistols is the buffer tube sticking out. I am thinging of getting one of the Rock River AR piston pistols as it has no buffer tube. I think it would be a great companion to the Mini Draco. The rail is rock solid and will hold zero if you were to mount an optic. I don't happen to like my optic right on top of the muzzle so I got a rail that replaces the rear sight. I would prefer the T1 sit much farther back but this receiver does not have a side rail mount and I didn't want to start drilling into the receiver.
