According to Stan, I still have a week or so before I get mine. I'm so ready!

I wanted to write them and ask how long it takes for a turn-around on the RPD, but I don't want to slow them down. Can you guys fill me in on the wait time? Also, fordson, pics dude, pics.

They received mine 12/8. Stan said at that time they had 12 they were trying to get out before Christmas. They had the internals in mine, but the barrel had not been pressed in.

No pics yet!?!?!? What the . . .

Regarding Project Guns turn around time - I recently read somewhere (can't remember where, maybe the Project Gun forum) that Stan is a one man shop now. Not sure if it's true but, if so, that may slow things down a little.

I have a kit there waiting for them do perform their magic on as well. I'm not in any big hurry and would rather he take his time with the build so she's done right. However, I have a hard time thinking that he'd rush builds out the door without making sure things are done how they're supposed to be.

It might take some patience, guys, but sounds like it will be worth it in the end. I haven't heard anyone complaining about their work yet.

I hadn't either until I found this thread on another forum yesterday.

Something smells about that story.

Lots of hate in that post which may or may not be warranted. Project Guns clearly tells folks to run their builds wet until they break in. There have been a few other posts that report sluggish operation until after 100-200 rounds when it runs as designed. Most reports of Project Guns RPDs claim them running great right out of the box. Did this poster run it wet for that many rounds? Maybe. Did he check his belts to see if they were the problem? Who knows? It sounds like he tried shooting it, had problems, and then ran to the computer to tell everyone how much of an expert he is and how his new RPD sucks. Maybe both are true but there wasn't much "objectivity" in his review. Just a lot of hate.

There have been a few guys who buy a belt-fed weapon expecting it to operate like a mag-fed right out of the box. Some do but both types are completely different animals as I’ve experienced with a M53. I had to tweak that thing like crazy until it finally started acting right. Even one of my 1919A4s needed a little tweaking to get it running reliably and those things are damned near bullet proof.

He also posts a video from FAC on this board which is a review of a DSA/Wiselite RPD. (i.e. a completely different builder). So, if a DSA doesn’t run a Project Guns RPD won’t either?

My RPD is currently at Project Guns waiting to be built. Who knows? I might have the same problems that he is reporting/claiming but I think I’ll wait until I receive it before passing judgment.

i agree that something is not right with the story.in his vid he says wise lite receiver built by dsa arms.in his thread he says project guns built the rpd.something wrong there.stan and jeorge built my 1953 russian rpd, which are the most difficult to get right and it runs like a top.i admit they do take along time, but they are a 2 man operation.i believe they would not treat a customer like that.this is a real Project Guns build.50 yard target.

Not to bash project guns, I have one of the first ones they did, and I too have had issues with it working reliably. Light primer strikes are not uncommon at all, maybe one every 5 to 10 rounds it seems. They also seem to come in bunches, one or two in a row and then none for a bit.

I havent shot it recently so maybe Ill lube the shit out of it and try running it again whenever all this snow goes away.

I'm playing around with the idea of getting one of these. If I was to buy the parts kit and send it in how much am I looking at total for this thing?

Thanks,

It depends on the options. Check out their website. I just ordered one up...
