I'm pretty new to RPK types, but I believe I have decided on an AES10B over a M72, unless someone with experience can talk me out of it.

This is the lowest price I have found. If I can get one at a lower price please point me in the right direction. Also how do I know if it has a chromelined barrel or not?

Thanks for helping an AK newb

I have both and in true ARfcom tradition I will tell you that you need both. That said, I think that is probably the best deal you will find now. I paid $399 for my Romy and $499 for my Yugo. Henderson Defense has a very good rep and while the folding stock is not my preference for these, their is definately nothing wrong with it. Should be a chrome lined barrel also. Yugos don't have that in the originals or the replacement Green Mountain barrels.

I say buy...

Great looking rifles. I'm probably going to put an Ace Folding stock on it. I also like the idea of putting a Troy Battle Ax on the ace system, but not sure yet if it would lock up in the folded position. The troy looks a bit wide compared to the stocks the Ace system normally has on it, but it would be very similar to a clubfoot and also be able to fold if I needed it.

I have two and they've been great. The rifles need a serious cleaning, and the stock needs to be refinished, but that's a given. HDI has the lowest price I've seen as well. The barrel is chrome lined, says so right on their website. I can see the lining extend out the barrel to the crown. The CL is the primary reason I chose the AES10B over the Yugo.

If you don't use the bipod, I hope you work out. That sucker weighs a ton and is very front heavy; tires my arms out more than my FAL or PTR. The AR feels like paperweight after shouldering the RPK. She's fun though and worth the cost IMO.

I have the one you wont to get. I picked it up new at a pawn shop down here that sales gun new and used.
I haven't shot mine yet but hope to get out soon and go shooting. I have that and a glock 26 and a ruger lcp I have not shot yet.
Not many of the RPK's around. I went to a gun show last week end and did not see one !
Need to get one while you can.

I picked up one of the last two HDI had in stock from my FFL last Friday and I am very pleased. They had the lowest price I had found and the customer service was good as well (threw in a cleaning rod and couple extra mags). As for the rifle, it looks great and everything is straight and clean. Now its time for a range report!

I also purchased two from Henderson Defense and have had no complaints. The barrel is chrome-lined which is the reason I picked it over the Yugo. You'd be hard pressed to find a 7.62 RPK anywhere for under $1K. Arsenal's version was a limited edition model and out of stock. Their current RPKs in 5.45 are like $2,400 .

I'd pick up a mint Russian or Bulgarian 7.62 for $1,200 or less but I think Hell will freeze over first.

Probably going to wait until I have more money.
