Thought putting the correct bipod on would be my next project.

How do I identify one?

Any links to where I can get one?

I ordered one from CDNN last week––could it really be the correct style?

The RPK bipod is not a clamp on style like CDNN is apparently advertising. The clamp on style on usually on a PKM. In order to get the PKM style to fit the slightly smaller diameter of the RPK barrel they weld a shim in it. You can see the welded in shims in this picture:

You can also see the clamp vs. the slide over. Note, the copper color under the bipod is anti-seize not rust; I was curious how it would work.

The RPK style requires the front sight be removed; drive the two pins holding it in place out, remove the flash hider/thread protector and it slides off. My AES10B had the dreaded canted front sight so I corrected that while I was working on it. Just enlarge the holes slightly and fit a larger pin (1/8" I believe). Mines pretty darn accurate now for what it is. You'll notice the cutout in the bipod on the gun fits the notch on the sight to restrict its movement.

The RPK bipod is slightly longer and the feet are notched to clear the cleaning rod. Some bipods are adjustable for height. All of them should have a flip over clamp to hold them together. You can tell the one that came on the gun had cheap paint on it as it came off revealing that parkerized looking finish when I first cleaned the gun up.

Hope this helps- if you have any more questions feel free to ask. If anyone has any corrections or additional info to add please do so too.
Edited to include pics.

DO you remember your post's title? I can try to look it up.

I got my bipod from CDNN today, it does adjust and clamps to the barrel––also had two shims. however, there is no way to secure the spring loaded feet together like on the bipod on my AES10B.

I definitely see the length difference between the two. What I got from CDNN is definitely not the same––I wonder if it is "for" some make or model, or made just for aftermarket.

No matter, do you know of a good source for the RPK bipod? Also, did you use a drill press to enlarge the front sight holes?

This is the one I am using for mine. Same one as SM's pics above. I didn't drill out the pin holes. I picked up a set of taper pins, drove them in, one from each direction and then cut the ends with a dremel. Worked fine.

The taper pins would have been a better option probably, but I couldn't find any at the time. I can't remember if I used a drill or a Dremel tool to open the holes up slightly. Either way the slots on the barrel have to be adjusted slightly to allow the pins to go through with the site base properly aligned- in other words, get the front site lined up correctly then look through the open holes and you should be able to see how much metal needs to be taken off for the pins to fit while keeping the sight perpendicular. A dab of Prussian Blue will let you see how much to take off after taking the front sight back off.

I got my bipod from Military Gun Supply too; fast shipping, no problems.
