Getting an RPK!

Ok I finally broke down and sold something so I could afford an RPK off a fellow member here. Glad to finally be able to join this section of the forum.
Anyway, it's getting shipped, hopefully before Christmas I'll receive it.
It is brand new and unfired. Romanian build, guy says it seems to be one of Century's better builds.
Anyway, the furniture is all unfinished. this is my first AK, is there any tricks to getting the furniture off, and what recommendations does everyone have for brand/color/tricks for staining and finishing the furniture? I searched but didn't come across any real threads on it? Maybe I'm just retarded.
Thanks for all the info. I loved the pics thread. It helped with deciding a color a lot, I don't care so much, personally, for reddish colored stocks, I like the color of like the oak finishes, if that makes sense.

I made a thread about this a little while ago.
It is an excellent rifle; I have one.
Here's my tips:
1. Be careful with the barrel. It is soft steel. Your screw driver will scratch it very easily.
1. Your most important tool is the mallet. Use it for everything. Don't use a regular steel hammer; you'll just destroy the gun.
3. The wood is terrible. Either buy new wood, use a clear finish, or buy synthetic furniture.
4. There is cosmoline all over the gun (minus the wood). Use 409 or other ammonia based cleaner to get it off the metal parts.
5. The cleaning kit works very well. Don't lose it.
6. Be careful with that carry handle. It's a bit fragile.
7. The wood screws that hold the sling in are absolute sh*t. They are the same screws that they use to hold the stock into the receiver, but they didn't pass the QC test. Don't remove them unless you have replacements.
8. Your sights are canted. Use a red dot/holosight/PSO scope if you want to get your gun to be accurate. And believe me; this thing can be very accurate. If you use match grade ammo (hard to find I know) you can definitely get it to near 1 or 1.5 MOA. Especially if you upgrade the trigger and remove the handguards.
9. Remove the cleaning rod as soon as you get the gun. The longer it stays in, the more the bipod will bend it.
10. Take pictures :)
Also, I'm sorry to say, but chances are, the stock won't take any sort of good finish :(
Unless if you buy better wood, don't try to stain it. Though, I could've just had bad luck on mine. But, still. Mine is uglified now and I definitely regret it.
