Would it be possible to use the M27 disintegrating links from the M249SAW in the RPD? Maybe not an exact fit but could it work? Has anyone tried this? I recently picked up a handful of M13 links for the M60 at a gunshow to play around with them and found that by using pliers to sqeeze them closed a little it's possible to assemble into an ammo belt of 7.62x39.

No.

RPD links have a tab on the back that interfaces with a portion of the feed tray to align them. The M60 link lacks this.

Also the bottom of the belt has to be open as to allow the bolt to slide thru it to strip off the next round. I wish someone would just make RPD belts and solve the whole problem.

MG34/42/3 belts are supposed to work also. More problems than OEM belts but better than nada.
