Yugo RPK Review
I purchased a YUGO RPK from J&G Sales a few weeks back and thought I would write a review to answer some questions I am seeing. I am not an expert and I have recently been converted to the dark side.
I purchased the rifle for $499, now is $599. I live in Utah and it took 3 days for my rifle to arrive. It is a Century build. I hear horror stories about Century and I was very nervous. I don't own any other Century builds so I can't comment on all of them, but this one is top notch, they did it right! The fit and finish on this rifle is amazing. No scratches or wear anywhere on the rifle. Everything fits very nice and there is no wobble. This thing is built like a rock (as an AK should be). It is a heavy rifle, but can still be fired from the standing position. The rifle was very easy to break down for cleaning with no struggles or F bombs (I know all AK's are easy, but the parts fit like a glove).
Range test: I used Wolf black box and military classic. They were FMJ and HP. I fired roughly 240 rounds. I did not have one FTF or FTE. This gun has a very strong ejector and was throwing the cases 8-12'. The bipod is simple and serves its purpose. Overall I am very impressed with this rifle and it was an awesome investment. Here are some groups from 109 yards using the bipod. The shots were 2 seconds apart at the most. I am not the greatest marksman, but I am damn happy with the rifle. It will get the job done.

I picked up a M72 from AIM for $499 some time ago as well. Build quality is so good it is hard to believe it's a Century build. Mine has been 100% reliable and chews through anything I feed it. Love it, one of my favorite rifles.
Man, those M72's are amazing. I bought an AES-10B and moded it to resemble a Romanian RPK-74. 500+rds thus far and not a single issue.
This weekend I handled a M72 for the 1st time, WOW

If I had known what well built and tight everything was I'd have spring for the Yugo.

yeah i love my M72....
Did the ones you guys got from AIM have the numbered buttstock and/or the Zastava stamp? I bought mine in the beginning of the summer and mine has the numbers and the stamp but I've seen quite a few M72's recently that do not.
Does anybody know the reason for this? Just curious

The front of the upper piston tube is slightly off-center towards the left on my Yugo M72, but I took it out for a function test and it seems to shoot just fine. Go figure. Overall I'm happy with it.
Mine did not have stock numbers.
Took out my new AES-10B this weekend and had all kinds of feeding issues. I checked over the parts, welds and function of the rifle before I left and they looked just fine. Used Remington, Wolf, and Tiger ammo. Rifle looked well oiled.
However, when firing the rifle:
MOST OF THE TIME:
Fired - ejected the round - cocked to fire - bolt closed all the way - but did not load a new round - then I had to pull the bolt (literally) all the way back so when I let it go it would even chamber another round.
SOME OF THE TIME
Fired - did NOT eject spent round - so I manually pulled back on bolt and ejected the spent round - then had to pull the bolt (literally) all the way back so when I let it go it would even chamber another round.
LESS THAN SOME OF THE TIME
Fired - ejected round - but new round did not load properly and bullet tip would be half way into the barrel.
I tried a variety of mags., all Romanian, I think. Forgot to bring my Polytech mags. to try. The stock 40 rounders the RPK came with are crap. On one of them the spring is stuck 3 inches in and I hadn't even loaded it. The rifle fired a "single" round just fine when hand loaded. On rare occasions the bolt didn't close all the way and had about a 1" gap from being flush. Only for about 1 mag. worth of ammo did the rifle function (almost) flawlessley but, interestingly, it appeared to work fine on the last 2-3 bullets in almost every mag. I used (2o rnds. max per mag.). The mags. lock into the mag. well good enough, but it does have some wobble back and forth. Does this sound like a mag. issue?
Thanks for any info. you guys have for me.
D Day
So J&G jacked up the price $100 because of the election result, or was there an advertised sale when you bought the rifle?
I have their site pulled up in one of my windows right now because I was fixing to buy soemthing. But if they jacked the price up $100 after seeing the election result, well, they are not the olny ones selling stuff right now! If it was not an advertised sale when you bought your rifle then they can go pund sand.

I am not sure. They have been $599 for about 3 weeks now. They sold out. They are getting harder to find and I think their cost went up on their new batch. I am not 100% sure, but that is my best guess. I like them a lot. Great guys on the phone and they keep an updated site. They also ship very quickly and charge reasonable rates. The AMD I bought from them was amazing.

the general thought is, century is not the builder of the yugo's.
The Yugo AK is a very well build AK and will only appreciate in time.
I love my M72. It is a great rifle with a great fit! Mine does have the zatsava stamp, but no stock numbers on it. I purchased it from AIM about 2 months ago for $499. I have 3 centry Yugos and all of them are excellent guns.
