I see the Century Polish Tantals being sold on the internet and auctions for a lot of different prices

My question is simple - " ARE THEY ANY GOOD ? "

I have had other Century products that were pretty bad but for some reason this gun appeals to me. I, of course want it to have the cleaning rod.
I have seen some advertized on a, take your chances basis. Don't want to do that !!!

It sounds like Century has put alot of them out there.

What do you guys think ?????

I have a, little used Glock 21 - 45acp, Trijicon night sights on it and 4 magazines . It doesn't have the under rail.
I was thinking about trading it straight up but I don't know whether thats fair for me or the other guy . If anyone is interested.

Most of you know much more about AKs than I do. All I have now is an ARSENAL SAM-7 without the bayonet lug. Very well made gun !!

Anyway the reason I am asking is = If you don't know, ask someone who might or does and I am asking you !!!!

Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out !!!!
I really do appreciate it !!!!

Hello Capt. Caps Lock..........................

For the love of all that is Holy, please type in lower case. Century Tantal's are suspect. Some were made with bad barrels. Newer ones may be ok. If you can shoot the one you are looking at before sealing the deal, do so. Make sure it doesn't keyhole. AFAIK all Century Tantals will have a US made non-chrome lined bbl.

Not sure what the G21 is worth to you but, I'd pass on the trade. Esp since you already have a good AK.

YMMV

FWIW, I purchased a Century Tantal last summer, even after reading some of the stories.
It's a 1/9 twist, and if I could, I would probably exchange it for one of the ones they started producing later with the 1/8 twist, as that's closer to original spec.

It actually turned out to be a good rifle. It doesn't keyhole on me, and I've put about 1500 rounds through it without a hiccup. Everything from 53-70 grain. Mil-Surp to Silver Bear

I threw a TWS Dogleg scope mount on it, a Primary Arms M4 red dot, and I really like it. Makes me want to try out one of the new Bulgarians - after swapping the furniture of course.

Tombird,

I have a Century Tantal I bought before I read about all the problems, has 1/9 barrel. Overall I have been pretty lucky, it doesn't keyhole, however the accuracy wasn't as good as I hoped. At 50 yds It shoots about 2 1/2 inch groups with commercial ammo, and 4-5 inch groups with surplus, haven't tried at 100yds. So have to feed it more expensive ammo, and I had 2 of the casings get stuck that locked it up completely. Did put a KVAR stock on it, the folder is way too short and too low to use sights comfortably. The good news is Tantals are now a $100 cheaper at around $400 and it is a good looking gun.

Since I wasn't happy with this one I got one of the TGI bulgarian truck guns and it has been alot of fun. It is more accurate with surplus than commercial, but still only gets 2 inch groups at 50 yrds. Like the wood stock set and Bulgarian chrome barrel. If you could find one of these guns for sale I would recommend getting it.

You may want to consider getting one of the Century Bulgarian AKs, the feedbacks have been good. I don't think it has a chrome barrel but can't remember for sure. Folks that put on a Bulgarian wood stock set make them look like the TGI gun.

Good luck.
