First AK
Hey guys! I'm looking to purchase my first AK and actual my first firearm destined for something other than hunting. I went to a gun show a few weeks back with the intention of picking up an SKS for under $300 but saw that AKs were selling for $450 and up. I just didn't care for the condition of the rifles but most importantly the dealers as they seemed kind of shady. I decided to take my search to the internet and arm myself with as much knowledge as possible. To be honest I've reached information overload. I've read many forums and reviews regarding which variant I should go with but when it comes down to it, I can't justify paying several hundered for a gun I MAY not shoot all that often. I think I will really enjoy target shooting but will have to wait and see.
I guess that sort of narrows my options down espcially since I'm looking for something NIB. I'm considering a WASR-10 from Century Arms but I have also found the AK-47C & STG 2000-C from I.O. Inc. I'm leaning towards the I.O. AK-47C since a dealer I found is selling them for $399. How do these stack up against the WASR-10 from Century since everything on the net claims the WASR to complete crap. Besides furniture, what are the differences between those two rifles and the STG 2000-C?
Thanks for your help in advance!
Something to remember is a romanian wasr 10 is inexpensive because there are so many produced. Not because of the quality(you hear about bad quality from someone who purchased another type for more money to say look at what I have and justifies it that way).wasr10's are crome lined. They have the same american made internal parts as any other does and the stamped receiver is lighter and actually flexes and dissipates heat better than a milled receiver. They are cheaper and easier to make,so what,if the end result is better. You will get better accuracy from a wasr10 than most any other ak you find''without spending a fortune on a valmet type''An ak never jams, always works perfect no matter what factory made it.
This is my findings and openion after owning most all ak's at one time or another.Guess what ak rifle I use the most?Look on page 62 of the new ak picture thread''My wasr10 is sitting on a marble counter in front of a wood door 3/4 of the way down the page''.
Thanks for the reply. So to keep it simple, the I.O. AK-47C and the Century WASR-10 are basically the same price. Besides a chrome lined barrel, what are the other differences and which should I go with?
