Total Newb a few questions before a purchase
I decided I want to get a couple AK guns but I have a couple questions before I buy. First I did search and read for 2 days which has left me very confused. I am fairly handy, have modified guns before and have tools, (mini mill, lathe, mig and tig welder etc.) So fixing or minor fabrication does not scare me. I have been looking at the Century guns and was ready to buy unitl I did my search and these seem to have a negitive reputation. I am lloking for soemthing to learn about the guns and customize, can these be made to be reasonable shooters? My biggest concern is the lack of "dimples" and wobbling mags. I don't care about the look or lack of realism I do care about function, is there a fix (or does it even need one?) other than making a new recieiver which I am not interested in at this time? They also have a a 1975 GP gun listed that has dimples is this a better choice?
Thanks,
Mike
I have never seen a WASR malfunction due to "mag wobble". I have read exactly one post where someone claimed a WASR malfunctioned due to "mag wobble". The recent WASR 10/63s seem to have less "magazine wobble" than earlier rifles. While it is possible to remove all play from the magazine of an AK it is not advisable to do so. It makes the magazine difficult to insert and remove. I know. I built one without play. I later opened the magazine well and ground some material off the locator tab to make changing magazines easier.
The condition does bother some people. There is a simple fix for those folks - attach shims inside the receiver.
A GP1975 has a US made receiver and a US made non-chrome lned barrel. The quality of the build depends on who built it. That being said, I haven't seen many posts about those rifles that are negative and the two I looked over did not seem to have anything wrong with them that a casual examination revealed.
