Arsenal SLR 95 with blonde wood set. NIB and never fired. I'm trying to determine what it's worth as I'm interested in buying it. I have seen SLR 95 with the thumbhole stocks sale significantly cheaper, but was told the blonde furniture set is very rare. This will be my first AK and any info anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

The asking price is 1300. Is that on par/high/cheap?

Thanks

So based on that comment I guess its worth 1300?

I saw other SLR95 with the thumbhole stock selling for 1000-1100 on gunbroker. It seems the average for them was less than 1000 though. Its just the rifle with no extras also.

It really depends on what you're looking to get out of it - do you want it for the milled receiver (for possibly another build), do you just want something "AK" to enjoy at the range, or perhaps something "traditional" AK?

A lot of folks like those for the milled receiver and often use them for other projects. As a plinker, it'll be quite an expensive plinker as an SAR-1, Henderson Defense rifles, etc. seem to be a bit more economically suited. As a "traditional" rifle, it is not. It does have the milled receiver but it also has a later, AK-74 style gas block and a later style AKM top cover (original milled Type III style rifles had a smooth top cover). Additionally, that rifle is a post-ban (has been neutered of its bayonet lug and ability to have a cleaning rod). It would require some work to get it in a traditional "Type III" configuration. But that concern is only something that may appeal to those that are purists.

Rifles with the milled receivers seem to command a bit of a higher price. The $1300 price can get you in the range of an actual non-ban Arsenal Classic rifle or even a pre-ban Polytech Legend devoid of the silly ban requirements, if you look hard enough. Personally, I've always thought those Arsenal SLR95 rifles were too much of a deformity of a traditional milled rifle as they should've at least used the original gas block. But they do produce them in that configuration for the Iraqi Army however in black plastic furniture.

For a bit more money, you can rock-out with a true, traditional-looking milled rifle and a folder to boot:

But if you're truly dead-set on getting an SLR95, do some more checking. For a bit more, you can get a milled Arsenal with accessories and the original box:

Or one WAY cheaper with the original-style gas block:

In other words, I don't think you're getting a great deal for that money on that rifle. Let someone else that thinks it's a smoking deal snag it up if that's what they want. I'd go the smarter route and look aorund to get more bang for my buck because there's better deals out there if you look.

Honestly I'm just looking for something that shoots 7.62x39 for a SHTF situation if I can't find any 5.56, 308 or etc. It would probably be fired very little, but I do like the blonde furniture and the way the rifle looks. I have been interested in it for a while. He started asking close to 2000 and he finally offerred it to me today for 1200. I'm just debating if I should get this or go another route.

It would probably be fired with open sights a time or two a year and that's it, but I would like it to be a dependable rifle if I did ever need it for self-defense.

Thanks

Hell no 2 expensive you can still find them for under 1k with the the thumbhole. With only the wood converted its worth maybe 100 more. Does it have the lower tang? Has the front end been converted?

If its fully converted its worth 1200 now days but just wood, hell no.

Way to much $. I wouldn't give over $700 for it myself, but then i'm a cheapo. It's just my opinion though. You can get a super nice preban for what they are asking.
