I just bought a brand new I.O. Inc. AK-47C. Has any heard of this Manufacture?
Hello,
I just bought a brand new I.O. Inc (Inter Ordinance) AK47C.
I have been looking for about a week and I couldn't find anything locally. (Even at the Gun Shows the prices are going off the scales!)
I finally settled on this I.O. Inc. AK47C from a local dealer that I have purchased from before. They assured me it was a medium to high end rifle.
I am not crazy about the color, but it was the only one they had and it just came in. (I live in Miami and they can't keep them on the shelves!)
This is what it looks like:
Has anyone heard of this manufacture? I got the LEO pricing because I have a good connection there. They were asking $1200+ for them to anyone else and I got mine for $899.95.
Have I made a mistake? I still haven't fired a shot though it.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a decent price with the current purchasing atmosphere.
It's simply a Romanian "G" kit with its parts given a makeover and a new receiver, with a new life dressed in TAPCO furniture. Shoot. Enjoy.

Rayman,
Thanks!
I was hoping it wasn't a total piece of crap!
I have been warned away from Century and WASR and no one around here knew much about this particular brand..
I bought it from a Police Supply type store and have had good luck with these people before, so I grabbed it before someone else did it.
Now all I have to do is fire it and see what happens.
Thanks Again!

If you look up/down a few post, you will see that I have been in the same boat. I know nothing about this weapon and I saw/held one and "had to have it". It is on layaway. Like you, I trust that I will not be disapointed with it. BTW- unlike you, I really do like the color. Please let me know how you llike it when you have some "play time".

Noah,
It shot well today. My buddy, the AK specialist remarked at how much he really liked the firing components of the gun, but there was one problem.
The rear cover did not fit properly and could have possibly come off. For some reason, there is a ridge pressed into the front of the cover and this won't allow it to slide perfectly into the receiver at the front?
It is really bizarre!
Luckily, I have a Saiga, and I took that cover off and everything was perfect!
I just got in and am exhausted. (We were building a backstop)
I will try to photograph the two covers and show you the difference. (Maybe tomorrow?)
It is like the cover was made for some other AK? The covers are cheap and I wanted one with a rail on it anyhow, so I will just order another one instead of going through the hassle of taking it back to the dealer.
Also, I just thought about it, the flash suppressor is canted at a weird angle. I am not sure if this is normal? It screws on the barrel, but has a locking pin to hold it in place. When it is locked, it points like at 11:00 (or 7:00?) instead of straight up or down?
I will definitely photograph these two things for you!
Chuck
Chuck, mine is still on layaway. I do not have much time with the AK design. The cant on the flash supp is normal(?) for an AK I think. The cover not fitting like you described surprises me. I really wish that I would have gotten into AKs several years ago. The price would have been better and I would have been able to stock up on ammo for a lot less $. And I still believe that buried in that spending package we will find some type of weapons/ammo regulation.

Noah,
The prices for everything have gone crazy! I just read that someone got the same IO AK-47C for
$499 in South Alabama on January 10th! I feel like I aught be wearing a maxi-pad on my ass from being F%&*#@*!
I paid $899 for mine!
I took the pictures and will post them right now in the next message. It appears that I am not the only one that had this problem from IO. I got this post from some other forum:
"Title: Re: new AK-47
Post by: cygie on January 24, 2009, 09:47:54 PM
The dealer where I bought the AK contacted I.O. and they are sending a new cover.
Evidently it is not the only AK build they did like that with a too-short cover!
I should have it this coming week, so I will see if it works. If not the dealer will swap me gun for gun to make it right. Can't ask for more than that."
This is the guy that got his for $499!
Stand by for the images...
Here is my new I.O. next to my Saiga. (Just for reference)
Here are a couple of images from the right side of the receiver cover and where it mates up with rear sight block:
Close-up.
This is how the cover mates with my Siaga from the same side:
Closer.
Much tighter!
Here are some views of the I.O. from the left side:
Closer.
(Sorry about the focus!)
I forgot to get close-ups of the Saiga from that side, but you can see the difference in this image of both rifles:
Here are some images of the covers removed. There
are some subtle differences!:
And finally, the flash suppressor. I didn't affect the firing and I don't know if this is normal? The dealer suggested that if it shot straight up, it would the flame would blind you or block your view?
Who knows, maybe he is right. At this angle, it would reduce the tendency to buck up and richt from the recoil.
Hopefully, your rifle will be perfect and you won't have this problem. In any event, it will be here on record in case anyone does.
Good Luck!
Chuck
Hmmmm.......
The next time that I go make a payment on mine, I will have to have a look see. That guy form Alabama got it at a great price. That was 01-10-09? Hard to believe that they have gone up that much in a few months. BTW- I have heard a lot of good about the Siaga's.
Take an air sander to that cover alittle at a time then hit it with krylon.

As an update. I took it back to the dealer and he told me that when he was showing me the difference between two different rifles he took the cover off of both of them and put them back on backwards.
I don't really remember this, but the new cover does fit better! I will have to fire it to see.
Also, he again said that the cant in the flash suppressor is fitted this way when they tune the barrel? Each one
is a little different from all brands that he had on stock.
I have purchased a screw on muzzle break, so in time it won't matter.

It is normal.
Here's mine from above.
Plenty more pictures.

You are correct! Even used ones in the store. It is getting crazy!
I am trying to get whatever magazines and whatever may be banned ASAP.
Does anyone what may be banned besides the guns and high capacity magazines?
Hi,
I purchased an all black I.O. AK-47c recently. I am new to Firearms, however for 700.00, this I.O. built AK seems to be made pretty well. Just received 1000rds. ammo Wolf 122 gr. hp
Hope to get out soon and test the bang bang factor.
My Rifle is tight, only rattle is the sling eyelet on the butt stock.
Mags (P-Mags)fit snug with little if any wobble, (yes I did the PU test on the Mag deal) felt like a clown

.
I was curious as well about the slant break being push pin-locked at either "@10:30 or 1:30" (left or right) instead up straight up? After thinking about this, could it be for Right-hand shooter="1:30" and left-hand shooter="10:30"? Shoulder your rifle and see where your for-grip arms elbow is pointed. Right-handed is opposite "1;30" @ "7:30" so a natural 180 degrees against discharge muzzle force? Only my Hair-Brained guess.
The Tapco plastic looks (cheap) but will be ok, for now. Will probably change at least the fore grip out later. So many options I figure Shoot it for several 1000 rds. before I spend more $.
The "rear cover" on my I.O. fits snug/tight. Will see what happens when bang bang?
As to the link:This guy loves his I.O. above,
"I just bought an AMERICAN MADE IO AK-47c and it is the biggest piece of shit I've ever touched I wish I could return it I wanted a cheap AK for my wife so she wouldn't have to clean it and I wouldn't have to worry about it "working" boy I hope I'm wrong we'll let you know next week after we shoot it- I have a better built bb gun I am TERRIFIED this thing will blow up in my face -the parts are so lose you can literally shake it apart I made a huge mistake I thought MADE IN THE USA meant something and bought it without a pmcs wish me luck it is so light because it is held together with plastic! the barrel is aluminum that will surely melt after 100 straight rounds I hope I am wrong I have run over and ak in Iraq IN MY HUMMVEE and the chinese made ak fired after a dust off! if I drop this AMERICAN MADE IO version it might break "
Sounds like a bummer. Not my experience at all. Hope he posts a Bang Bang report, hope it does not, blow up in his face as he seems to be "TERRIFIED" of!
As Far as "the barrel is aluminum that will surely melt after 100 straight rounds" I call BS.
And this fiction, "I have run over and ak in Iraq IN MY HUMMVEE and the chinese made ak fired after a dust off! "
I would have picked the Chinese AK up before running it over. I suppose that this poster/poser must have a "sensitive" side if he could feel the big Bump "in Iraq IN MY HUMMVEE " after he discovered running over the (Loaded) AK which he simply dusted off and fired.
Anyway Kindest Regards to xXTombstoneXx, & Noah120! Hope you have Great Fun Shooting your I.O.'s.
ratbite
Roger that! A few more payments and it will be mine.

OK, Here we go. The slant brake is correct. It forces the rifle down and to the left (into the palm of your hand).
What we need to see is,,,a picture of your rear trunnion.A lot of times, the rear trunnion is sticking out the back of the receiver a bit too much, making the dust cover want to come off.
Press in on the button and remove your dust cover. Then remove the guide rod/ recoil spring assembly. Then set the dust cover back on the receiver and look at the back where the cover meets the rear trunnion. If you can slide the dust cover back and forth, then it has too much play in it. Carefully bend the back of the dust cover too make it a bit longer. This hopefully will narrow the gap and reduce the possibilities of the cover flying off.

US made barrel = non-chrome lined. Remember to clean after use or rust will ensue.
As a note, the barrels are supposed to be made by Mossburg.I really like mine and am very happy with it.Have only shot it once but it functioned great and hit what I was aiming at(12" pizza box) shooting off hand at a pretty close distance.I guess there are lemons in all guns,I have had several Beretta autos that jammed everytime I shot them.Hope you enjoy yours like I do mine

The only problem that I have found is that when I grab the magazine and push forward on the mag release, the mag binds and will not rock out. I have to be careful not to put too much presure on the mag as I am rocking it forward. Does this make any sense to anyone. Or have I totally butchered up what I am trying to describe?

Just curious but why didnt you just convert your saiga would of been allot cheaper than what you paid for that AK

Does the mag release lever move freely? Does it do this with all magazines, or just one? Could be something as simple as the magazine you are using.
Just out of curiosity, how much are these guns selling for today?
In AZ you can pick up a decent AK for about 400 the nicer the rifle so is the price but I havent seen anything above 700.
I was wondering about the Inter Ordinance AK-47 they are talking about... I don't think I've ever seen one of those anywhere and was wondering what the "normal" price was, which I would assume they are back down to now... or close to it anyway.

I have tried other mags and they all do the same thing. I have it in my lap now and when I grab the mag from the front and attempt to use my thumb of the same hand to press the mag release, the mag release will not move. I have to resist the natural tendency of pulling on the mag as I push the release with the thumb. So.... I have to almost pull the mag forward as I am pushing the mag release. (Which I just can't get use to.)
What I paid for mine? Too much. $680 out the door.

I know, I know. It was the week of Obama being swarn in and my wife told me when I got in the car emptied handed, "You better get it now while you can. I don't want to hear you crying later!" (Gotta love a woman like that!) So I went back into the store. Do I regreat the purchase? NO. Just that I paid too much for it. It has all of the Tapco furniture on it and that ran it up $100. The thing is, I don't like the Tapco furniture. Wood is just fine with me.
I had a WASR10 that did that, it was so tight that I had to take another magazine and tap the mag release lever a couple of times to get it to release. It was like it was just a tad bit too long, so I took a small file and filed off a VERY small amount from the top of the lever at a time (the surface that touches the tab on the back of the magazine). I reinserted the mag a few times during this process to see if the problem was still there, until after a few times it wasn't. Works perfectly now with all magazines. If you do this, make sure you only file a small amount at a time since you can't put back on what is filed off, and you could end up with a little bit of mag wobble if too much is taken off. I couldn't tell you for sure if that would fix it without actually handling the gun, but it sounds like that might fix it. YMMV.
Thanks GrimH. You put into words what I was thinking. The next time that I take it out (and have the time) I will look into doing that. I understand the statement "very little". I also was wondering if the weapon just needed some more "play" time.

The other night while I was bored, I went to I.O.'s home page (it's new BTW) and they had just posted a review from the Army. Overall the weapon got a good review and was recomended with a few suggestions on improvement. Thought some of you would like to read it.
I picked up the February edition of Small Arms Review today at Barnes and Noble, and it has an article on I.O. Incorporated in it. Just thought I'd pass it on!
