Replacing a Golani handguard with a wood one
How hard is it to replace the supplied handguard on a Golani rifle with one of the nice wood ones I have seen out there?
I must admit that I don't have a lot of experience with tearing these type weapons apart and working on them.
If we are talking the Galil rifle, it's pretty easy. The front handguard has a retaining plate that releases by flipping a lever over 180 degrees. Once released, the plate will move forward on the barrel, allowing the handguard to be rotated down from the front and removed from the rifle. If your new handguard comes with all the pieces, just put the new one back on, push the plate back, and flip the lever over.
If the new one comes without the pieces attached, you just remove them from the old handguard and put them onto the new one.
I went the opposite way, took off an old cracked wooden handguard and went with a new black polycarbonate one I was able to find for a good deal.
