Leave out this lower rod that is on the AK?

Western armies do things differently. The Galil went with peep sights too. So did the Valmet, which also omitted the rifle mounted cleaning rod.
The Galil is based on the Valmet. The Fins eliminated the front sight tower and moved the sight to the gas block, so there wasn't anything left out by the muzzle to capture the end of the cleaning rod. Also having a cleaning kit in the stock with a pull-through bore brush seemed to make more sense than just providing a cleaning rod.
Plus, cleaning rods rattle. IDF trains their people to move quietly; they attach slings with non-rattling paracord, used to cover rims of their old steel helmets with rubber to deaded noise, etc.
AND - I have an old Ruskie SKS (1954) that oddly shoots tighter groups simply by removing the cleaning rod. Dunno why - but it does.
