OK, I won a Galil. I need some information about it.
I won a .308 ARM Galil Rifle (thanks to the mods and sponsors), and I know absolutely nothing about the weapon. So, I turned to the best possible place for all information concerning firearms, Arfcom.
First of all, what can I do for optics for this thing? Should I get an ACOG or a scope? How accurate are these weapons usually?
What kind of ammo should I get for it? Do I need to be super anal about the quality of ammo for it, or will anything work with it?
I was also wondering about ammo pouches for it. What should I get, and will the mags fit in the same kind of pouches that you can buy for an AR10 or something?
Also, if you know anything that might be helpful, pass it on. Thanks Guys!!!!
buy ammo
Don't pimp it out. Just buy ammo.
Well, will any ammo work in it? Should I worry about the brand or quality?
IMI made a scope mount for the Galil, it goes in the dovetail on the left side of the receiver.
It should be GTG with pretty much any .308 or 7.62 NATO ammo.
The only things you need are mags and a time machine to score some SA battlepacks for $30 each.
BTW, you failed to post pics.
Lucky bastard!

I don't have any pics yet.. I have to wait for it to get here first. :-)
mags for the 308 galil are hard to find and when you do they useally come with a premium price tag, id vote for mags then ammo
This is your lucky day:
New IMI 308 Galil 25 rd mags $99
Since you got the rifle for free, my advise is to LOAD UP on these mags. Barring some kind of 'found in a warehouse' deal (which has never happened yet with these mags), you won't find a better price.
Leave the rifle as is. It is not an ar it already is tacticool.
Buy ammo and use it. As much as you think you like it now, you will like it more after firing it. Mags will never be cheaper than the source sited. Buy more than you can afford. The price will NOT be going down.

The galil is not heavy at all once you are used to .308.
