I already have a 5.56 cal rifle, MSAR, and couldnt be more happy. Now I would like to have a Galil, so before someone replys to save up, and buy an IMI, from what I understand IMI didnt ever make a Galil in 7.62x39.

Has anyone got a Galil from these guys?

or these guys

Or, would you just say screw it, and buy an AK?

Correct, the 7.62x39 Galil is a rare bird and no IMI made Galilsin that caliber were imported to the US before the import ban. There's a few pics of some out there in the hands of mostly South American military or police, so they do exist.

If you search around for info on Elite Firearms you'll stay clear. he has an extremely bad reputation despite the nice article in SWAT from a couple years ago.

Ohio Rapid Fire is the major player in Galil receivers, but sometimes they slip though underhardened.

If you're serious about it, look up TennGalil (sp I think?). He's the go to guy for the project. Be advised that chrome lined barrels in 7.62x39 are hard to come by though if that matters to you.

I looked at the Tenn guy who does all of the work, but here is a question. Since I want 7.62 cal, would the Ak47 be more reliable than the Galil, not speaking about the original of either.

I really like the looks of the Galil and from what I read its supposed to be an AK 47 with everything more polished/upgraded, but after reading most of the posts about the aftermarket/clone Galil's out there it seems that most are hit and miss when it comes to getting something that works.

Thanks for the heads up on the bad manufactures........

Yep, the Galil and Valmet are AKs that have been to charm school and do exude a sexiness the AKs lack IMO. I would say the Galil and AK are about equal in terms of reliability, with perhaps an edge in accuracy to the Galil.

The sometimes problematic aftermarkets from Century or whoever are made out of used parts kits taken from demilled Galils and assembled on Century's own aftermarket US made receiver if I understand correctly. Old parts coupled with receviers that may or may not be in spec and assmebled in a sketchy manner and you can draw you own conclusions.

Tenngalil puts out an outstanding product from all reviews. Check the pic thread here, and you'll see some of his work.

What did you do, just buy the whole gun and send it to them or where did you find a kit in 7.62? If I buy a whole gun and send it to them will I still pay the $600? Thanks for all of the replies..........

Get a .223/5.56 parts kit,you can use it for a 7.62x39 build
you will have to find a 7.62x39 barrel and bolt also.
Just contact Jeff at Hillbilly Firearms and he will guide you through it.

It took Jeff 3 months to build my SAR. he's super busy, so I would expect a few months for sure

One more question. I would ask Jeff this, but I know he is very busy. Does Jeff's builds on the 7.62x39 take standard AK47 type magazines, or do I have to specifiy this on my order with him?
