 Ok, I really want a m76

What are my best and least expensive options? Right now it seems JGsales, but I'm no expert on this. I'm not looking for an MOA gun, I just want a reliable DMR platform that's an AK type. The m76 seems to fit that bill. I'm not the biggest PSL fan.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

P.S. Have any of you m76 owners tweaked the setup. I read that Liquid tried a different optic, I would love to see the setup!

You don't want a Century 76 for sure. I have also heard that all have magazine issues.

The magazine issue is a design flaw in the magazine itself and is common to all M76s regardless of origin. The BHO follower nose dives in the mag and gets stuck when the bolt hits it. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it'll happen often enough that you'll start dropping the mag on the last shot. SOP in the Yugo army was to drop the mag before firing the last round.

There are a lot of good Century M76s out there. Problem is, there are a lot of really bad Century M76s out there as well. It really is a roll of the dice with them. Assault Weapons of Ohio (AWO) makes a decent rifle now that they have worked the early bugs out of them.

I like my M76 a lot and am glad to have it. I like my PSL as well. I like my .308 Veprs (I have 2) a whole lot more and would take them over the M76 or PSL without hesitation. Something to consider.

I can post pics of my optics set-up tomorrow if you're still interested.

I am Liquid. I'm also considering one of the Atlantic FPK's. I need something with good range and knockdown power. I know that 8mm and 7.62x54 are good for that

My M76. The scope is a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Mil-dot scope. It is light years better than the ON-M76B scope that traditionally comes with these rifles. No comparison.

The mount is the Yugo M92 mount that comes with these rifles. I pulled the rings off and mounted a section of Picatinny rail from K-Var. The scope rings are Warne, I use them on multiple rifles and they are bulletproof.

The whole set-up is low, centered, and offers an excellent cheekweld. This is the single best thing I ever did for my M76. I have also mounted a Harris bipod on this rifle and installed a RSA trigger as well.

Hey Liquid,

Thank you for posting that. What do you think is the biggest gripe with the Zrak optics? They're expensive as hell for surplus combloc optics. I had a TIP 2 on an AK. I really liked the scope, but I only paid 79 for the optic and 20 for the mount.

I kind of want to stick with Russian style scopes on it, I really wanted a scope that was made for THAT gun. However, if THAT scope sucks it does make think a lot more about this rifle before I pop as little as 1000. With your Bushnell, what kind of accuracy are you getting out of this rifle?

I don't have a problem with Zrak optics, they are fine for what they are. It's just that there are many more modern optics that have superior glass and features for often significantly less money. The bang for the buck isn't there IMO. If you want something "proper" for a M76, they are the only way to go. To each his own and all that.

My M76 will shoot 2 - 2.5 MOA if I do my part, 3 MOA fairly easily with good ammo. I've read posts of others (on other forums) that claim MOA or even sub-MOA, but I am somewhat skeptical of some of those claims. I really need to try a larger variety of loads in this rifle, but I own a lot of rifles and they all compete for my attention. These days all I am shooting is ARs, Veprs, and pistols, but I'll get back to the M76 eventually.

The Bushnell 10x40 is better than the 4x Zrak by a large margin, but it really comes into it's own at 300 yards and out, that's where it leaves the Zrak ON-M76 scope in the dust. I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to these rifles, I just use whatever works best for me regardless of where it came from.

Many people are just fine with the 4x Zrak and I say more power to them. If they like it and are satisfied with it then that's all that matters.
