When is my Yugo's Birthday?
This is probably a question which I will never find the answer to but how can you tell how old a Yugo AK is? There is no date below the Zastava Kraguvec logo, and I know the parts are a mismatch of whatever Century had. I must say I know the gun was built by Century in Mar 2009, but I wish to know when Zastava produced it.
For whatever the reason, Century sanitizes the front trunnions on their Yugos. The factory born-on date (year) is gone with the swipe of a grinder.

They want you to think your getting a "new" gun. That and it may have to do with them building them back into rifles, as they have to call them "sporters" and not AK's or anything mean like that

Since Century Yugos are mix-masters, the date on the trunnion would be fairly irrelevant. Also, Zastava puts the model (M70B1, M70AB2, etc) on the trunnion and you know that plenty of AB2 front trunnions get installed on Century B1s and vice versa.

good point

After watching a show about how CSI-types can identify serial numbers on guns which have the number scratched off by gang bangers, I used the same techniques. In my case it was a magnifying glass. It doesn't matter but my Yugo's birthday is in 1987. A faint M70 AB2 1987 can be seen. Just adds to the knowledge of my gun parts.

Where exactly is the stamp, I may do a search...

It would have looked similar to this (pic taken from thread on AK Forum):

jnk556 - Do you happen to have a pic of the left side of your AB2T by any chance? I'm curious about something...

If you do take a pic, take a close-up of the left side receiver and dust cover.

This what you need??
I guess I'll never know my AK's B-day, damn grinder

Thanks for the pic, it confirms what I suspected. Your dust cover is notched for the bulged trunnion of a 1.6mm receiver.
If the AB2Ts are built on AB1 kits as suspected, the model/year info wouldn't have been on the front trunnion as Zastava never put it there on AB1s.
AB1s had the serial number stamped on the right side of the receiver above the magwell, but nothing on the trunnion like the later rifles.

So I see, no grinder was required to remove the date, as it was on the receiver?

Yeah, the serial number was on the receiver. To the best of my knowledge, the date wasn't stamped on AB1s. See the pic from the AB1 kits on Apex's website:

Actually there was only one type of top cover used. This picture is of an all matching slabside Yugo
