How to remove Grenade Sight?
I do not see ever needing the Grenade Sight, and it is covering the spot on my Ultimak that I want to attach an off-set light mount to.
Is there an easy way to remove this part, or should I cut it with a Dremmel?
use a dremel...thats what I did...to have it properly fold down with my midwest industry rail....the grenade sight also controls your gas system it shuts it off when up so all the gas can go out the front for shooting a grenade! So be sure to leave the devise on!
Thanks! I forgot about it turning the gas on and off! Do you have any pics or a link to a how-to? Seems pretty straight forward, but I would like it to come out finished looking.

Actually the release button you have to rotate to raise the grenade launcher sight is the one that regulates the gas. Straight up is OFF(Single Shot) to the side is ON (Semi Auto).
OP I would advise you to reconsider cutting off the grenade launcher sight. At the least remove the pin holding it instead of just dremeling it off so it could be reattached later.
I have only butchered one milsurp rifle in my life and I knew when I did it I would end up regretting it.
I could sell the original stock now for what I paid for the whole rifle a few years ago, but I cut it off to look more "Sporting".
Japanese Arisakas had the anti-aircraft sight wings cut off by their new American owners and now those rifles with the original sight wings demand a hefty premium over those that have been removed. Yugo SKS's with the grenade launcher sight intact may very well be in the same category someday.
He is right however...you sound like me and dont care to keep it original...you want to mod it out and get all the use out of it and not bby te thing and keep it all original...so cut it down and not worry about it...I wish I had pictures! just follow the curves of the sight and try to make it look as stock as possible and have fun and be careful!
ENJOY YOUR AK AND SHOOT IT!

I would like more information on this pin. Looking at mine, I do not see a pin. It appears to be staked.
Any good clear close up pics?
The grenade launching sight gas blocks are easy to disassemble. The staked nut is the only thing holding it together.
You'll need to have that cross pin to plug the hole, and without the sight leaf, there's nothing to keep it from rotating by itself.
You could just cut the ladder portion off the leaf, or you might consider pulling the gas block and replacing it with one that isn't Yugoslavian.

thanks for the image and for the information!
As it has evolved, I do not think I will be altering/removing the ladder sight. After getting the T-1 mounted I realized that if I add an offset light mount to the ultimak, I will not be able to use the Irons.
Now I am looking for alternate ways to mount a light.
