I picked up a M70 built on a Nodak receiver a while back. Today I was trying to take off the receiver top cover to clean it up a bit. However, I can't seem to press the rear button in far enough to lift up the receiver cover. Is there a trick to these Yugo guns? My other AKs are easy.

Don't forget about the recoil assembly lock button. It's located on the upper right hand corner of the left side of the receiver. Push and hold the lock button on the side of the receiver while pushing the recoil spring assembly button in. When the recoil assy is all the way forward (in), release the lock button on the side of the receiver and the recoil assy should stay in the forward position. It's a nice feature.

Ah, I did see that button. It seemed a little stiff too. I'll try it again.

So how do you get the top cover back on? I've tried the button pushed in, pushed out and I've slapped down on the top cover. However, I can't get the rear button to correctly fit in the slot. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I don't know why this AK is giving me so many problems.

Use the lock button to retain the recoil assembly in the forward position (pushed in). Put the dust/top cover on and push the lock button to release the recoil assembly and it should pop through the cover opening into place. Done.

Thanks for the help liquidmetal. I've tried that as well, but it isn't popping through. I'm pushing the cover down as hard as I can, but it just doesn't seem to line up.
