This was the first gun I purchased with my own money once I started working back in High School. Purchased in 94' I have many fond memories shooting this rifle and even a little deer hunting with it, although never got one. The stock was really showing it's age with many scrapes in the finish. I spent some time sanding her down. I didn't steam any dents out becuase I didn't want to take away the character. I stained the wood with a brown stain, then used amber shellac with de-natured alcohol dark brown rit dye. The Chinese wood is very light in color underneath, so it took a bit of trial and error to get the dark finish back.
Anyways, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I haven't shot her in years, but now I'm itching to take her out.
