I bought this today from a older guy, a Yugo 59/66. Barrel looks OK, The action looks OK/good as well. I have not broke it down yet but it does have a lot of dust build up the gentlemen I got it from said it has been on the wall for 2 years. To be honest I am not a sks/ak guy but he offered it to me for $140.00 so I took it. The question I have is did I get a good deal? The wood is not in the greatest shape scratches all over it and in a couple places someone craved in it. You can see in the pics. Any help or advise is greatly welcome. Also if I took it and have the stock redone would it ruin the guns value? Also all the SN's match. I am not the best picture taker or editor so if the pics suck sorry....

All signs point to "YES".

I'd have bought that for $140.

Id say damn good score for $140! Im not the most knowledgable guy on SKS stuff, but that gas block and metal behind the FSB looks pretty cool, is this one of the ones that had the grenade launching ability? Anyone here, chime in please?

Thanks guys. If I would take the wood and have it redone would that screw with the value? I have a peeve about scratched/banged-up wood on guns. I guess that is the reason I am not into firearms with wood. I would mount it up on the with the Remington 700 and not use it much or none at all if I got the wood redone.

Leave the wood alone, doubly so if the stock carving on the forend is original! There have been quite a bit of Yugoslavian guns imported recently that have "trench art" carved into them by bored soldiers during their civil war. Leave them alone or buy a replacement stock and keep the original stock in the closet if it bothers you, but don't remove any markings from the wood.

I want to come back and post some pics of my 59/66 after I completely cleaned every inch of it and sanded and re-stained it. I was even able to keep the original SN on the stock. I know I should have kept the stock the way it was. I call the guy that owned it before me and was told the carvings in the wood was from him. I think I did a pretty good job for my first resto on a gun but I am sure if I didn't you guys will let me know... . So here she is-

140 is a great price in todays world of over inflated SKS prices. Heck, I saw comparable SKS's going for 450 to 550 at the latest gun show here in Militiagan.

Nice job on the wood. You've got a very nice rifle there with matching numbers too. The magazine appears a little rust colored (might be the lighting), but nothing some cold blue couldn't remedy. Congrats
