I inherited an SKS, but don't know much about them.
You have got one great little rifle. Like it's big brother the AK, the SKS is peasant proof. It shoots the abundantly available 7.62 x 39 cartridge, is suitable for medium sized game like whitetail deer and hogs and it will defend your home and loved ones against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Get a manual, learn how it works and shoot the crap out of it. Love your SKS.
you have a keeper there, cheaper than dirt.com has all sorts of stuff to customise it.
Resist the urge to try and make the rifle something it's not.
Chinese are good rifles.Id take a chinese SKS over most any US built AK anyday of the week..Most would agree

Totally agree. Check out surplusrifle.com for teardown intructions (real easy to do). Beautiful rifle & nice score

Thanks all. yeah i'll stick to my ARs for all the "high speed" gear. i'll just keep this one stock and have fun with it, i've heard bad things about the detachable magazine upgrades anyway. it seems to be in really good shape. fortunately ammo is cheap for it so it should get a nice little workout on my next day off.
I love my SKS...nice rifle for what it is .. only complaint i have is that pesky 10 round fixed mag..
The only thing I would do to that thing is put a bayonet on it. The Chinese Spike bayonets are all over ebay for $10-$15.
