Questions about Synthetic SKS stocks
Are the ATI hunting type stocks inlet for the bayonet? I'd like to get a black stock but I want the bayonet on it!
I've had three different Monte Carlo style synthetic stocks, the ATI, Combat Exchange and the Choate, and none of them were inletted for the bayonet.
The Choate, BTW, is the way to go for a hunting stock - very grippy and very light compared to others. It also has about 1-1/2" for a better length of pull.
I'm sure you could have them inletted, or set up a jig and DIY with a skillsaw or a router.
I tend to get in trouble on the sks forum...but here I go.
Why not get a dedicated SKS to sport out for hunting? ie no bayonet.
There is a reason those "hunting" stocks have no cut for a bayo....it is not needed, dead weight etc.

No trouble this time
I totally agree. My three guns that I have set up for hunting are all without bayonets. It makes more sense for me to have a lighter gun in the brush.

Because, I like the monte-carlo style stock. Are there any american made wood stocks from ironwood, or the like?

None to my knowledge that are still offered. A few were made in the 90's and early '00's.
Here's a pic (courtesy of beachbumwithagun) of a Fajen that was made in a very limited run. If you can find one, please get me another. It's a beauty!
Again, if you are after a hunting stock for an SKS, why are you hell bent on wishing to have a bayonet, unless you tend to revert back to standard condition? I got an accurate Norinco that I have...yes...dremeled the bayo off to be more practical for hunting. I doubt a wild hog will charge and I will need to hunker down with the bayo ready. Unless you plan to collect it or someday sell it to another collector that cares for such a thing, then I can see it being a concern. But many collectors do not even bother shooting their wood pile of SKSs in fear that their...(lol) $200-$300 valued old SKS will lose some value. But you intend on shooting it, so I see it a s moot for preserving value.
My Paratrooper came in a Choate stock. I was not impressed at all. Thought it looked ugly and just didn't feel right.
I got a jungle stock and have never looked back.
Mine came without the bayo and it has been hog hunting. Like the others, just don't see the need for the bayo. Hog hunting will be what this rifle does the most.

Without a bayonet, what do you do when the rifle is empty and the can or carboard target charges and simply refuses to drop, despite multiple hits from your .45?
I put a ramline stock on my sks years ago. The wood stock was too short for me. Some purest got all riled up when I posted this picture

How does the Ramline measure up vs. the wooden stock? It looks nice and I have considered a plastic stock for my SKS. Someone needs to tell the purest that 1945 called and want their SKS back, lol.
Most of the aftermarket stocks are around 14.5" LOP. I don't know about the Ramline, but I do have the Choate on one of my hunting guns and it is light and just right for shooting.
And I love an unmolested collectible SKS, but for practical needs (hunting, extra stock length, personal preference), there's no need to get "purist" about a common carbine.

I've had this stock since the early 90s, I'm sure there's nicer ones out there now but back then the choices were a little more limited. I wasn't on the Internet back then, shopping from my tactical lazy-boy. If I remember right it was 2" longer and half the weight. It has the plastic hollow feel like AR hand guards. There's no hole for the cleaning rod or cut out for a blade style bayonet, but a spike bayonet will work.
I have the same stock on one of mine, but it's the Wood-Tech style instead of black. Kinda/sorta looks like wood until you handle it & realize it's hollow plastic.

The increased length of pull is great if you need it, but I tend to prefer the shorter LOP of stock SKS/AK stocks & the A1 length AR15.
IMHO the best synthetic SKS stock is the red-brown fiberglass ChiCom "jungle" stock.
