 Typical SKS accuracy?

I was shooting my Norinco with Klimovsk JHP ammo today. 5 shot groups at 100 yards were 6.5" with the iron sights from seated position.

My LMT M4 with Eotech was shooting 1.5" with IMI M193 at the same distance.

Whats normal for a Norinco SKS with russian ammo?

Sounds typical for Russian ammo. Try a box of Remington soft points. Too expensive for blasting ammo but is more accurate in most rifles and its reloadable.

Definitely try some diff ammo, you should be pulling groups way tighter than that @ 100 yards.

Two differant times, in quicky 5-shot groups I've gotten 2" at 75 yards. I think that's about spot-on for what it does. This is wolf ammo in a Norinco.

I do gotta get some brass-case to try though. Remington, or maybe winchester. I tried American eagle but Stuff won't shoot worth anything out of my AK or SKS.....Easily 2X the group size of Wolf ammo. Federal must still be loading .308 diameter bullets...

Very typical grouping with mil-spec ammo. The best consistency that I get with mil-spec comes from Golden Tiger and that is 2MOA with only one SKS out of thirty that I shoot. Most of the others will get 4-6MOA, and a couple of them are out to 8MOA.

Remember, the original stock front sight post covers a 4" wide swath on your target picture at 100 yards!

6.5 inch groups with crude sights, inconsistent ammo, and from a sitting position is respectable for both the shooter and the SKS.

I've got some lapua, hornady and Yugo ammo I'm going to try this week.

I went back to the range today and tried 5 different types of ammo in the same Norinco SKS.

5-shot groups at 100M leaning my elbows on the bench as a rest.

Lapua Mega Spire Point 2.64"

Klimovsk JHP 4.56"

Yugo FMJ 4.76"

Wolf Military Classic JHP 7.00"

Hornady VMAX 8.36"

Not surprisingly the Lapua ammo shot the best. Wish I could get more of it. This SKS shot horrible with the Hornady load.

Other shooters may have shot this same rifle and ammo better or worse. But it definately shows the benifit of trying different ammo to find what works the best.

Thoughts on S&B 7.62x39? Mine's brass cased, using a steel-sandwich bullet. The cases are Boxer-primed, so I've been saving them and reloading them.
