SKS Sights
Anybody modified the existing sights on their SKS..??....I read a post where a fellow filed the rears to increase the sight window....my problem is at greater than 35 yards on a black target the front and rears disappear, leaving no sight picture....I put a dab of flourescent green acrylic paint on the front sight post and will try that at the range tomorrow, if it works I may make it permanent with some enamel....anybody got other ideas besides Tech Sights and Williams..??...

Why do you not get a different color background? The only other sights available are these:

The rear sights exist as well...............

Thanks....just looking for a solution to a given problem....I could probably solve the problem by painting a different picture...
i put a dab of that fluorescent paint, think its called Brite-Sight, on my front sight post and it's worked out well for me

Don't waste your cash on Brite-Sight. A much affordable and effective approach would be to buy a small bottle of neon hobby paint (likes testors) and then cover it with fingernail topcoat and it will last a very long time and not fade if left uncovered. I've done this any some of my rifles and never saw the need to order paint when you can buy some much cheaper at a local store.
Tech-sights.

I have not used these myself but, at the Appleseed Shoot I attended two years ago these were highly recommended. I was just looking at them the other day to put on my 10/22.
The tech-sght is a good choice. I got one and its awesome. I recommend getting the front sight post that tech-sight sells for $5.00. It compliments the rear tech sight. Just need to cut off the lever the reciever covers has....
I looked for some Testors at the local hardware store the other day....guess I'll have to find a hobby shop....the green acrylic didn't make much difference today at the range, but today I had the sun behind me, last time out the sun was overhead/in front....I really like my aperture sights on the AR-15....I'm thinking of filing the rears to create a wider rear sight window, and buying the front crosshair post I saw the other day....

I just use the $7 front sight target post for Techsight on both my SKS rifles thats all I ever needed.
I like the "look" of the front sight. My concern is the skinny wire cross that you could accidently jab out, if you are not careful. Looks nice.
While each costs around $10.00 (not too bad). You could also consider one of the following:
Midway does sell them individually but I wanted to show you the different ones at once.
SKS/AK front sites from Midway
I used that KNS cross hair front sight on a loaner AR and really liked it. Looked into putting one on my own AR build but found so many bad reviews due to breakage that I decided against it.

Thats two votes against the crosshairs due to breakage possibilities....good enough for me....don't want to turn it into a momma's boy....
