Help me out with my 107UR SBR project. (With Pic)
I bought this SLR 107UR at a local gun store last week, and really want to get it SBR'd as soon as possible (I know, it will be several months

). This is my first SBR, so I'm still learning about a lot of this... I've filled out my Form 1, just need to send it off to my county sheriff next and get fingerprinted. I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate any help you guys could give me. Feel free to answer or give opinions on any of them. Most importantly, here's the picture!
After I get my stamp, I need to get the barrel cut, crowned, and get the gas port opened up. Any suggestions of who I should get to do this? I'm not sure if I trust any locals to do this, and don't mind sending it off to someone who really knows what they are doing. (I'd prefer to send it somewhere close to Virginia, but this isn't that big of a deal)
I would like to get one of the Bulgarian 4 piece muzzle brakes (or flash hider, whichever it's called). I've seen a copy at
Apex for $65.00, but I saw
this one at dsarms, and thought it might be a better one. What do you think, or do you have any other recommendations?
I like the
StormWerkz Rail that I've seen that a lot of you have, and think I want to go this route as well. I see that it comes with a template for installation, is it easy to mount and ensure that it is straight, etc.? I'm pretty handy with things like that, but wanted to make sure it wasn't too bad before I started drilling anything. I've seen some people experimenting with Ultimaks also, but I think I like the StormWerkz rail better.
As far as engraving my receiver, I was thinking the area on the bottom in front of the magazine well would be a good, out of the way spot. Any other ideas?
Thanks for any help, and let me know if there's anything else that I might be forgetting or just any other ideas you may have. Eventually, I'd like to get a triangle stock (if I can ever find one), but I'm not in too much of a hurry to do that. Thanks again!

Hey I have a Bulgy 5.45 krink and I am waiting on the paperwork for it as we speak. I had Mike at Firingline in OK build mine. He does great work, but he is fairly pricey. He also built a SAM-7 for me as well that is awesome. I have heard good things from InRanger, Overland industries, and Rifle Dynamics.
I WILL TELL YOU FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE NEVER USE CHRIS HORN!!!!
I had a scope mount put on my krink and I plan on using that and not the storkwerkz rail. I don't want to do any permanent drilling on my kit. (my personal opinion)
As far as a triangle side folder, I would stay with the one that is on there. It adds some weight and helps with recoil IMO. You should be able to find a bulgy flashhider it might just take some time. I am going to use mine for a SHTF rifle so I am going to add a Krebs rail on mine at some point and a foregrip. Who knows we'll see.
Grimhollow,
Welcome to the world of Krinks. That is a beautiful rifle you got there.
Mine was a kit so I don't know much about cutting the barrel and opening the gas valve, but I know TxZen is up on that as he has several. I'm sure he will post as soon as he sees this thread.
As far as a builder. I went with Troy Sellars at inRange. He did a fabulous job on my Krink and was so easy to deal with. Always responded to my emails and answered all my questions and even helped me fill out the Form 1.
The Stormwerks rail is a great piece and I had Troy put mine on, so I did not mess things up.
The 4-piece Bulgy from Apex is what I have on mine cause I couldn't find the Bulgarian. The one you saw at DSArms should be the real deal, but I would be willing to bet you they are out of stock. I suggest getting the Apex one until you can find the real deal. I've had mine about a year and I'm still looking. The copy is slightly off in color, but works just as good as the Bulgarian. Funny thing is not one of my friends or others I have showed the Krink to have ever mentioned the difference in color. I think it is really only noticeable to other Krink owners.
Where you're talking about engraving is probably the common place. That is where Troy engraved mine.
I have the triangle folder and love it. Sometimes I would like to have the solid stock, but don't plan on changing. As far as recoil, I can't imagine it would make that much difference on the 5.45 as I just don't notice much recoil, at all.
Enjoy yours, here is mine

I was going to have Chris @ AK USA do mine but with things being the way they are I have put it on the back burner for the time being. Chris does excellent work and it wouldn't hurt to give him a call to see what he could do for you. Mine has been a safe queen since I bought it and now I might even look to sell it.

I know how that can be... I guess it's kind of a good thing that the tax stamp will take a while, that will give me plenty of time to think about things anyway. Hopefully I'll get to take this thing out tomorrow and shoot it a little bit as is, but I cannot wait to shoot it after I get everything done to it that I want to do.
I ordered the 4-piece Bulgarian flash hider from DSArms just now, hopefully they actually have them in stock. I also went ahead and ordered the StormWerks rail.
Thanks for the ideas and suggestions so far everyone.

I am interested in your safe queen. Let me know if you are going to sell it. You can call if you want 301-643-5056.
Thanks,
Michael
I called DSA about them last week and they have been out for a long time now.

Well that sucks.... guess I'll be getting an e-mail or a call about that tomorrow (hopefully). I'd like to find one that is the "real deal" because I don't want to take any short cuts on this rifle. Oh well, looks like the search will continue!

Thanks,

Michael,
I'll do that before I list it anywhere else. Just not sure which direction I'm going to go at present, or a time frame. Sorry to be so vague.
grimhollow,
Hey, when looking for the 4-piece, just call before making your order. Saves you alot of time and frustration. That is what I have done for the past year, after getting mad everytime I order one and then get notified it was out of stock. Gotta watch them cause one company charged me even though it was out of stock and they had no idea when they would get any in. I'm checking KVAR every day cause someone said they were expecting some in.

Thanks man, I'll probably call DS Arms in a couple of days if I don't hear anything from them. So far I haven't heard anything, I would think a company like that would let me know by e-mail or phone if they weren't going to send it anytime soon, but who knows. I'll have to keep a check at K-Var, too. I don't have a real problem getting the one that is a copy if I have to, I just want it to be the real thing if I can find one and don't mind paying a little more for it if I have to. I guess the good thing is I'll have plenty of time to look for one.
On a side note, we're supposed to be going out to dinner this week with a friend of mine and his wife who is a lawyer. I'm not exactly sure what all she does, but I think she does wills, etc., so I might ask her a few questions about a trust and maybe see about going that route. Hopefully she knows something about them, or does them... that would be really cool.
The barrel chop isn't particularly hard but I wouldn't trust it to just anyone, you wouldn't want your precious to get bubba'd up by accident. Talk about suckage if that were to happen.
There is a 3 or 3.5mm bushing that needs to be drilled out for the gas port to be the right size when it gets SBR'd. Basically the gas port is already the correct size but gets plugged because the rifle ships with the 16" barrel, I was told it's a simple matter to drill the plug out but obviously you'll need to pop the FSB off to get to it.
I can't comment much on the 4 piece bulgarian booster other than to say that I know a number of people that have had a hard time finding them (Bikeman included) and I even got one of the brassy colored knock offs from a dishonest or unknowing seller. FWIW I actually prefer the cone booster on the 5.45 krink, it's louder but my unscientific observation is that the cone booster is a little better for accuracy. I've been thinking of getting the 7.62 version for my UR actually but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Stormwerkz is the way to go for sure. It's cheap and highly effective but you do have to drill your top cover...if you ever decide to sell that could possibly detract from the value but IMHO only a purist would be distracted by it, it's a damn nice setup and I'm really happy with both of mine. You could go with the new Ultimak for krinks if you wanted to mount a light as well, I would get one but I'm happy with my Samson rail and Stormwerkz setup. If I had to do it all over again I'd consider the Ultimak because it's a lot cheaper solution than the Samson-Stormwerks combo but I've gotten used to my setup and don't want to change my habits just yet. I'm about to run a few carbine courses this summer and that will help me decide if using a more traditional forearm stance is better for accuracy than the mag hold I'm using now because of the Samson setup.
I engraved my receiver on the side but in retrospect the bottom of the receiver probably would have been a better choice. On the whole I'm not worried about though but since you're starting from scratch I'd agree with engraving on the bottom.
Welcome to the club!

Thanks Z, I was wondering what rail that was that you have, I like that setup. As a matter of fact, all of the guns I've seen that you have are cool. I doubt if I'll ever sell this one, so I'm not worried about drilling on it to put the rail on, but I still might check into the Ultimak before I do. Right now I'm thinking I'll probably stick with the StormWerkz though.
