how are you attaching the slant brakes or barrel nuts to the 'no thread' barrel?

Are you talking about a Maadi that's standard barrel diameter, or one that's had threads and been turned down?

My MAADI must have been turned down to much. I can't thread it, so I'm in the same boat.

I think that's pretty typical for the MAADIs. Mine too was turned down too much to be able to rethread with a standard slant brake. Options were to use an adaptor which I've heard nothing good about, do nothing, find a good smith that could weld the brake on, or research some comments about rethreading with a different size. So far I've done nothing but still want to pursue finding a competent creative smith to try the weld as I had already purchased a US made slant brake before finding my diameter was too small.

I did the following.

Get a single piece of 308 brass

Cut a chunk of it off so you have a circle about 3/4 the length of the turned down muzzle.

Put a cut in to open up the brass. Now it should look like a C (with a really small opening) when viewed from the open side.

Get that thing on the muzzle.

Dremel/grind the inside of a muzzle brake until it you can pound it on.

Its WECSOG, but it worked for me....

It has been on for about 700 rounds so far and it isnt going anywhere..

Thanks for the idea. The "filler" was something I had been perplexed by, I tried to follow the link for the pic but my browser kept timing out.

The link wouldn't work for me either, I'd like to see it.

I've heard that for the turned down Maadi barrels, you can use the right handed AR-15 sized die sets (can't remember what size that is) and thread it. You couldn't use a standard AK slant but could use any brakes designed for use on ARs.

I'll do some research, but I've got this thing about wanting the "AK look" and I don't recall ever seeing an AR slant brake. Hmmm, is it 1/2 by 28 RH for the AR? I think the brake I originally bought before I knew what was going on was a LH 14mm. Some google searching found a US made slant brake in both sizes at Global Trades. This may be promising after all.

Thanks

EDIT: The 1/2x28 slant brakes at Global have been discontinued and they have no manufacturer information. Nothing on Tapco or other sites where I've looked either

Sorry for the broken link. Should be up now.

The pic is just of the whole ak.

I will see if I can get some shots of the muzzle only, but you probably wont be able to see much...

Maybe a bit of copper near the fsb.
