Egyptian?
What's are the man difference between this type of AK with respect to a russian model?
uh....it was made in Egypt?........what info are you looking for?
I'll ramble on for a bit, stop me when I get close.
Egyptian Aks are all of the stamped/AKM type to my knowledge their were no milled reciever types.
Egyptian made AKs are made by Maadi in or near Cairo.
They had the 45 degree looking gas blocks not the 90 degree modern ones.
The front sight posts were tall and skinny like the Romanian and Hungarian versions. Bulgarian and Chinese AKs had the original style AK47 pattern which is longer on the barrel. Just a cosmetic difference.
Maadis have the palm swell.
The wood is lamined flavor.
The only pre ban Maadis were imported by Steyr Secaucus in 1982. Only 2200 were imported and 55 or so were used and abused for the making of Red Dawn (1984). 30 some of them were converted to FA for the movie.
Several post ban Maadis were imported by multiple importers. I'm not up to date on the differences in those except that some were imported as recievers and built in the US with Chinese parts and that didn't work real well. So if you are looking at buying a post ban Egyptian do your research and stay away from those.
I believe they (the Maadis) were manufactred in a factory with machines that the Russians brought down and set up for them.
The "Crutch Stock" looks cool.
If you find a pre ban Maadi in box with the bayonet be prepared to trade your daughter.
Uh....I was just kidding, if you do have a young daughter.....remember I was just kidding.
I personnaly don't like that the upper and lower wood forearm pieces don't usually match. I don't know why they were this way but it makes them different.
Some of the post ban Maadis had a sleeve over the threads like the sporter Galils and can be easily removed.
That's all for now. I realize that probably didn't answer your question. But it was kind of vague to begin with.
Huh, I did not know that the preban were only imported during 1982.
The Maddi AK's are made using Russian equipment. Russia set up the Egyptians factory. I like my Maadi.

I got one! I got one! Nya nya nya nya nya nyaaaa! (does a little dance)

I've had my Maadi for about 10 years now. It came w/ a threaded muzzle break but not a bayonet lug.
All the wood matches perfect. Thumbhole stock.
Is this pre or post ban? I thought the post ban weapons didn't have muzzle breaks???
I don't know much about AK's in general but I purchased a Maadi imported by Intrac (?) It currently has a short chinese stock on it and I am thinking about putting complete set of black polymer furniture in NATO length on it.
What do I need to know in order to get the proper furniture? I believe it is stamped, square cut receiver. Am I correct, and is there anything else I need to know before ordering (e.g. K-Var)?

you should be good to go.
They are pattern correct Russian AKM's from the late 60's early 70's. Add Russian wood and you got a nice piece of history. You can take the post 89 ban RML and ARM Maadi's and make 'em just as nice as the pre ban Steyr's with some nice Russian wood and some minor welding to build up the bayonet lug.
I have a post ban Maadi and it has the bayonet lug and threaded muzzle. It was imported by Century Arms. Or is it a pre-ban???????????? The reciever is stamped Maadi MISR AKS.

It's not a pre-ban. The pre-bans were imported by Steyr. They are rare and very expensive.

Excellent Russian clone.

. Does your stock have a side swivel? That is one rare stock.
Excellent use of your 1st Ammend. rights too. A work of Art, indeed.
If it is Russian -- wood pattern looks Russian to me, yes. I've only seen one other laminated AKM stock w/ the side swivel.

Yes I know that my Maadi is post-ban. I just wanted to let people know that they can't go by looks alone to determine if their rifle is pre or post ban.

Yes, the stock set is Russian. I believe the stock is a replacement Russian stock though since is has that stamp marking on it that looks like a small box with a diagonal line through it. You can barely see it in the bottom pic. The bakelite pistol grip is Russian too.
