 Maadi questions......

Bought a Maadi barreled reciever today (basically the rifle minus furniture, bolt, bolt-carrier and cover).

I bought this because it was in great conditon, and thought I could build up an awesome AK with a long list of quality US parts.

The problem is, I want to put on a "standard" buttstock, and the reciever is made for the "thumbhole" buttstock.

My question is this: Would cutting the rear of the reciever to fit a standard stock work? Has anyone know of this being done before? What other options are there?

I really want to get started on this new project, I believe I can cut the rear of the reciever to fit a buttstock, finish it with Brownell's Alumahyde II, and all would be right in my Maadi world.

Whaddya' think??

If your receiver is square cut at the back it's ready for a standard stock now. If it's angle cut, what would you be cutting? Got any pics?

It's a Maadi MISR 7.62 x 39 Made by Maadi Egypt Imp C.A.I sT ALB. VT. Century arms, import.

I posted pics of the RECIEVER here: http://www.arfcom.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=64&t=66986

Here's the rifle:

I contacted Matt from Ironwood, he said they make a stock set for the slanted reciever Maadi. Seems all I need to do is remove the rear plate. I have the standard rear trunion, looks like it should be no biggie........

No, it's a Maadi MISR put together by ME with Frankenstein parts . The RECIEVER AND BARREL are Century, and YES the buttstock and some of the parts are Chineese. Many of the parts are US, including the gas piston, FCG, and magazine has US buttplate and follower. For the record, I've already ordered a stockset that will fit the MISR from Ironwood.com, and will be removing the plate post haste.

See pics I posted HERE:

When it's done, it will be like Steve Austin......better,Stronger, Faster!! Will no longer even resemble any "Post-ban" butthole BS AK.

Since I took this picture, I've threaded the barrel, and put on an AK-74 muzzle brake (US Made), and refinished the reciever with Alumahyde II, refinished the bolt carrier assembly with grey parkerizing Teflon Moly. Ordered Ironwood walnut stocks, Bulgarian adjustable rear sight, and Bulgarian slabside mags.

Still haven't decided if I want the G2 trigger or RSA......

Post a pic of work done so far.
Does the front sight have the retaining pin for the muzzle brake?

No retaining pin for muzzle brake. I was gonna replace the FSB, but decided not to. I'll likely have the 74 brake tac welded on. I'll never use the cleaning rod, and have no reason to remove the lower grip once installed. I keep switching between the slant brake from my WASR and my 74 brake and they both look great, but I'm going for the AK-103 with wood stocks. I may yet change my mind. I heard of people using Loctite, as it's not so permanent, I dunno......

what type of Maadi is that with the angle cut receiver? Was it difficult to find a stock to fit that?
