 PARS Maadi RML

I thought I would get everyone's thoughts on a newly acquired PARS Maadi RML. It's in excellent condition with little wear and tear at all. Barrel is fantastic and the finish is free of major defects. The stock is a rough in spots, but anything beats the thumb hole. I tore it up pretty good getting it off. I even tried tyeing the receiver down and pulingl the stock off. Had too much glue and the lamination peeled in spots. Too bad, but that thing is a POS anyway.

I believe I have the correct blue/green sling and original brown pistol grip. Please correct me if I am wrong. The barrel threads were turned off and hence the set screw brake. I wish I could get a 14mm slant brake on there. Any ideas on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Paid $500 for the rifle, sling, extra stock, pistol grip, 4 Bulgarian mags, a Circle 10 polymer mag, and 500 rounds of ammunition. Not too bad. Prices are coming back to reason.

Any information pertinent to this rifle type or your thought on my setup are welcome. Take care.

Congradulations! Welcome to the World of Egyptian AKs, lots of great parts on the market these days.

You can thread your muzzle 1/2 RH and find one of the slant brakes with that thread, other than replacing it with a take off Romy bbl,..................this would be your best choice.

From the pic, it looks like yours has an East German pistol grip.

I have a Maadi RML imported by PARS too.

I bought it new in 1993. It is very well made and has never once had a problem. A few weeks ago I de-banned it (922r) - with a Tapco G2 FCG, US made plastic pistol grip, upper/lower hand guards, and buttstock. I tried the set screw slant brake you have, but found it was too big and didn't fit tight. Now I am using a set screw thread adapter and it works and stays on fine. I found it looks better than the set screw slant brake. Here is a link to the one I use.

http://dpharms.com/ak47-set-screw-adaptor-p-291.html

I drilled small dimples in the barrel where the set screws go and used loctite on the threads to hold the 14x1 LH Tapco slant break on.

I considered re threading. Since your/my threads are turned down the barrel is less than .5" in diam, so you cannot rethread 14x1 LH to use a standard AK slant break. You will need to consider 28mm and using an AK 74 break. Also, you will want to remeber to get a pin and srping for you FSB to hold the brake on the threads. Here is a link to a tutorial for re-threading a barrel with some good info.

Nice deal Hammonje, sweet RML, my last Egyptian I got was an RML also my first, your stock looks great on it, pistol grip is East German, you can get a real brown or black egyptian here (www.apex.com), go to the Egyptian Forum at (www.theakforum.net) for more info, join up and post a pic over there too and share it with everybody, as mentioned over there is a member hotbarrel who makes and sells 1/2 RH threaded slant muzzle nuts, if you thread your RML 1/2x28RH you can put hotbarrels slant comp on and an Apex grip, and presto/change-o, you got an Egyptian AKM that would make Omar the Tent Maker proud!

I changed the grip to a Black Egyptian one. Looks great now and she shoots about 3 MOA. I am happy with the rifle and she gets a good workout each trip to the range.

I will wait to thread the barrel until my set screw muzzle brake goes flying into oblivion. I put in on there with blue locktite and it is holding nicely. It flew off the first time, but I saw it go downrange and found it. A small miracle and another reason to call your shots!!!! If I would have closed my eyes I would never have seen it come loose!!!!!!

I switched to a better pistol grip. The Tapco shifted slightly no matter how tight I made it. I had 1 extra US part, so I went with this shiny black grip. I think it came with an old Maadi wood/grip set set I bought in 1990, but I am not certain.

Thread 1/2 x 28 and buy a 1/2x28 slant comp. "hotbarrell" on the ak forum sells them.

Nice looking rifle Ham ! !

I have a PARS too. Set-screw brake.

One of my favorite AK's –– about a ba-zillion trouble free rounds so far.

Here are pics of the USA slant brake on after I threaded the barrel. I also just found my original box and the factory inspection certificate from 1992. This rifle is the one I tend to pick to shoot more often than my others.
