Read the thread on putting muzzle devices on turned down threads. Since all the post ban maadis came this way, I figured I'd post in this section. Just picked up a post ban maadi and am looking at putting a muzzle nut or brake over the turned down threads and wondering if anybody has had any success in that.
It depends on how much thread you have left. You probably aren't going to get a regular 14x1 installed. Others have tried the adapters which I don't care for. If there's enough metal some have installed a 28 x 1/2 brake. I liked the slant for it's original look , but those in that size are a little tougher to find. I've also read of some others that used a "filler" around the barrel to get a traditional size to fit.
Not all post-bans came with the muzzle turned-down. Many simply had a cap tack-welded over the threaded muzzle.
But I've actually had success with using JB weld to keep the slant brake on (I know, I know, it was a long time ago). On one rifle, the slant brake fit a little loose over bare barrel so I sleeved the barrel so the fit was tighter. Then went to work ensuring it was stay on. Another Maadi I seemed to like the slant brake I used and the fit was good enough to simply use the JB weld on it.
Both have managed to stay on with one rifle having several hundred rounds through it by my brother since 2005. Just an option...
Another option would be to get your slant brake/flash hider situated on your muzzle and then tack it on working the tack weld in smoothly. You're probably not going to be taking the muzzle attachment off anyway since it's not threaded. Just be sure that's the attachment you want permanently on there.
Yea, since I bought it I have seen some pics of post ban Maadis that din not have the threads turned down. I wish I had known that before I bought it, or I would have kept looking. Anyway, when I decide how to 'fix' it I'll update on how well it went. First I have to find out if a slant brake is considered a flash hider or not, I live in a ban state.
I too have used JB weld with great success, too much success, as I cant get the thing off now...............some of the Romanians came with an unthreaded nut tac welded to the fsb, there are some out there who have removed these and tossed them into their spare parts box, I go to the WTB section and ask if anyone has a spare, then tap it on the neutered FSB bbl stub or JB weld it on if loose using the detent pin as a guide.
