Arsenal SGL 31-94 is it worth the extra for the folding stock?
I am on the fence for this. Should I get the regular warsaw stock of the solid folding stock?
Any owners have input? For the record I have a triangular folder already.

Folding stocks are only really useful for transport. I never shoot any rifles with the stock folded. So to me it's not worth the cost difference to me.
totally worth it IMHO for nothing else but the resale value. Have PG reinforcement plate added and it will be bitchin.
If you're interested in just shooting - get the fixed stock (31-61) and save a few hundred bucks.
If you're interested in shooting AND collecting - get the poly side folding stock (31-94).
It's worth the extra money.
I am considering the exact same thing. I have an SGL21-62 now and want to get either an SGL31-61 or SGL31-94 to go with it. If I go with the 61 I may swap the furniture on my rifles since it is easier to find plum mags in 5.45 than it is in 7.62. Why is it a better investment to go with the 94? Is it because "they" may ban side folders again?
In my personal opinion it's not really worth the extra money. I was considering the folding stock version but in my eyes they just look silly. Both my 21 and 31 have fixed stocks but I do have trigger time with the folding stock models and they are rock solid. They're just not for me. It's really up to you and how much you are willing to spend. You can't go wrong with either one.

Because it's what the Russians are using as we speak, and have been for the last 20 years.
The AK-74M (SGL 31-94) is a vet of the following - First Chechen War, Second Chechen war, Moscow Theater Hostage Crisis, Beslan School Hostage Crisis, Georgian Conflict, anti-terror operations recently in Dagestan, and any and all other terror and police operations inside and outside of Russia. Everyone from Spetsnaz to Interior Ministry troops are using the AK-74M.
Because of this, a 31-94 will be more valuable to collectors one day, and hold better resale value than a fixed stock 31-61. I'm not bashing the 31-61 (I own one), but in my opinion, the 31-94 is a better overall investment.

only difference is the PG reinforcement plate. Add one and you have a factory clone.

+ 1 on everything said above
Are these in stock anywhere yet?
Guys thanks for the responses. I think I will get one, my question is who has them in stock?

K-Var just got a new shipment of the Russian polymer and triangle side-folding stocks. If they don't have them in stock right now, I'm sure Arsenal is working on them.
Arsenal has them and are currently starting shipment in the next couple of weeks. Expect prices to go up from what is indicated on the website.
We have a large number of them coming in and expect them to start shipping out of Arsenal next week to our warehouse , We also offer disocunts to AR15.com members so please email us with your ar15 user name for a price quote etc. Response times may be aroudn 24 hours we have been getting around 400 emails daily .

I just signed up on your website for an email when they arrive.
Thanks,

I've got a 94 and love it. And sometimes i do shoot it with the stock folded
Hey nictra, where's a good place to get a pistol grip renforcement plate installed?
akbuilder.com to buy one, like $8 or something like that. Then anybody should be ale to replace it. I do my own. Take of PG, remove rear trigger guard rivet, attach plate under trigger guard, install new rivet. You will have to take trigger out also. My rivets don't look as nice as factory, but they do function very well, none have ever come loose. Any smith should be able to do it. AKbuilder is also a good place for rivets. Just call or email for that particular rivet as it's different than most.
Arsenal called our office today and they expect them to start shipping out ot us early next week , we just got in some SGL 21-94 762 X39 Side folders . Make sure you email our office with the item you want and your AR15.com username for a discounted price quote .

PG (1)

21-94: $1,200
31-94: $1,150
Maybe a little less, but that's about what they're going for.

Thanks, Atlantic said above they were discounting for ar15.com members. Was curious what that price was.
Maybe the wrong place to ask, but will atlantic get the 107 FR's in too?

Its a great deal for a 74m clone but its not a Russian factory built sidefolder. Even with the PG plate added they are not an exact 74m clone but pretty damn close and worth the extra money.
I have been checking my email and still no sign of these being in stock.

Dammit! I've been waiting about a year for these to be back in stock and I went and blew my gun budget for the month! I hope you have a bunch of these coming in so I can be sure to get one

They have not arrived yet but we had a meeting with our Arsenal rep this week and he said they would start shipping out to us late this week but with the Shot Show we really expect them to start next week .

You also need to add the selector markings, proof marks and the extra barrel pin marks. I have a clone of one being made right now.

well yes, of course, if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty.
ETA:
I wanna see pics when done!

It will be done in awhile, finally got all the parts for that one. The AKS-74N is going to take awhile too. I should have a 1986 AKS-74UN done around the end of Feb. Still waiting on the stamp though.
I decided to purchase the SGL31-61 thinking that I can buy the hardware to convert it later if I change my mind. This way when the folding stock is installed I can have the PG plate and markings added as well as refinish it all at the same time. I cannot really think of a time I would want to use the rifle with the stock folded and with the extra $300 I am saving I can buy a nice optic for it.
The new Rifle is awesome by the way. Looks great next to my 21-62 in my safe!

The only thing is, the 100 series folding stock conversion, after parts and labor, is very expensive (like $500-$600 expensive) depending on who does the conversion.
So, although the fixed stock version is $300 cheaper, it's going to cost you double that to have a 100 series folder installed down the road. So, you're actually saving money by getting the factory installed folder model (31-94).
I'm not knocking your decision - I also decided on a 31-61 for the same reason. Both are fine rifles.

which is exactly the reason I went with the 31-94! LOL!
Still waiting for these to show up.

Look don't make the same mistake that I did, I bought the fixed stock version a few months before the 31-94 was released. I should have saved and waited on the folding stock instead of getting on installed. I bought the folding stock kit for $270+$460 to get it installed with the reinforcement plate which the total is going to be around $730 to get it installed and the rifle refinished again.
The folding stocks are a nice bonus. If you can, I would get the side folder as it offers a nice level of compactness when stowing it.
wow this is just what i've been looking for! definitely on my buy list... would be a nice first ak
Got some money set aside, just waiting for in stock
