WTF is up with Romy PSL's
Are they not going to import anymore in the us????? I really dont want to settle for a parts built gun or pay 900.00+ for one.
thats the question everyones been asking for a while now, got one from the last batch offered at aim a while back. but do know for sure m+m/coguns will be offering their brand new PSL in .308 w/fs,gb as one piece, thats the most current import i know concerning the PSL.
some kits are selling on gb for over 600.00

We have spoken with the importer multiple times and no plans on more PSL 762 x 54R at this time .One option is the Russian Vepr 762 x 54R rifles they are very nice & $899.00

That's not good!! Hopefully there will be more coming in sometime soon.
But for now, I have a PSL and a crap ton of PSL parts that I am going to list up on the EE here shortly

thanks atlantic, now who wants to buy my cugir built PSL for the fact they might never import them again....starting price $1k

....just kiddin. glad i got one. if this is true then dang may see the prices get even higher for the rifle.
We truly are living in the Golden Age of Guns again. Not since the 1980's has so much been available. I think sometimes we take items like the PSL for granted until they are gone. It's nice to see it in demand and becoming a classic.
I bought mine from AIM about two years ago for $500. My M72 RPK was about the same. Dammit. Sold like a dummy.

Don't laugh. They're already going for $900+ on GB.
I never got why they stop importing these. The PSL are the few rifle that can be import “as is”. Like for example the WASR-10 have to be modified for people to want it. But the PSL need no 922r parts or modification for it to be legal.
The other option is the Russian Vepr Rifles in 762 x 54R they cost $899.00 and are a much better rifle than the PSL series. The Military Arms Channel will be posting a video review on one of these in the next 2 -3 weeks.

From the shameless plug department.

That's what I paid for mine from AIM too. Love this gun..

Very nice! Did you refinish it? It looks to have a shinier finish that the one I got from AIM.

Nope. That is straight out of the box and dumped on the deck for the picture. I really got a NICE one.
since buying my sgl21 last year i have been wanting a 7.62X54R chambered rifle for longer range play. cabelas got in some mosin's from ukraine and i was gonna ad one of those because after i got married in december my wife (whom is ukrainian) decided she wanted to start shooting with me when i make trips to the range. at the time i only had the SGL for the rifle range and i decided to add another rifle to the mix and the wife was all on board. after doing some heart searching i decided i really wanted to grab a PSL as they are completely familiar in terms of build and getting harder to find. MAN O MAN are they hard to find
i looked all over the web and GB and either the asking prices were too high or the guns were kinda banged up or mis matched parts. yesterday julia and i went to a few gun shops looking for something and in a pawn/loan/gun shop they had on the wall a 1979 CUGIR build from CAI. all numbers matching, bayonet lug, good wood and metal. rifling in terrific shape. very very little wear on the bolt and other parts. if i had to guess it has been shot very little and stuck in a closet or safe for years.
Julia and i took it apart and inspected it and it was a must have. i did not show my excitement and bargained the price down from the asking $850 to $725. came with the original 1979 scope and cover and 2 mags. i felt i did okay as they are not on any gun sites and nobody local has them on the shelf at all. if the values go up that is great, but i buy to shoot, not to safe queen.
also. how does one strip and re-stain wood?
thanks,
joe
Looks like a good deal Joe.
Paint stripper will take the varnish off
thanks mark. we are gonna head off to the range in a little while to try her out.
i was reading and doing my homework before trying hard to buy one. it was either gonna be this or a SGL31 AK. my heart was sinking the more i looked. they just are not out there in good shape or decent price. so when we stumbled on this one it was a must grab. i am shocked at the fact these seemed to sell for $500 2 years ago. so for a little under $800 i dont feel too bad about the paid price if i know i can sell it or make a bit on it on the future if i need to. i typically only buy something i really like and keep it forever. at least thats the idea. at 31 years old my collection is not vast, but they are all trophies to me as they are exactly what i wanted and like to shoot
on the wood is there a preferred way to stain, color or brand that is best? last time i worked with wood was in 7th grade wood shop.
There is a lot of personal preference in staining wood.
The color on your furniture is an uncommonly good match between the pieces ... I would not stain that wood, a lot of people only wish theirs matched as well as those do.
I'd spend extra money and buy another set and work the alternate set or just revarnish the pieces you have without staining them a different color.
i think you are right on with that. i started noticing that other guys' wood does not match or is fairly close but not exactly. so i will find a second set to mess with. there were some other issues that made the first outing today a bummer, but my wife made up for that with some crazy shooting with the PSL. that is for another thread

As an update to this it looks like the PSL production is truly dead and done. No more coming in according to info here:
http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showpost.php?p=915502&postcount=22
And from
this page see this comment at the bottom:
"The manufacturing at the SC Fabrica de Arme Cugir SA (ARMS arsenal) in
Cugir, Romania has recently been taken over by the Romanian Government
due to the unethical business practices, bribes, corruption, graft and
siphoning off of profits for personal gain by the recently replaced
private sector executive senior management.
Due to heavy financial losses incurred during this period, a change in
direction as to where the production is slated to go has been redirected
and
imports to the US are not part of the bigger picture. It's doubtful
we'll see anymore Romanian PSL receivers and even more unlikely we'll
see any completed guns."
I've been eyeballing one at Classic Arms with poly furniture @ only $ 799. If I hadn't bought a 308 AR in January; I sure would have gotten a PSL. If I bring another rifle home; I got a feeling I'll be looking for someplace else to live (LOL).
I believe they have bad business practices, but I refuse to believe they are not making them anymore. Would this be the 14th time Cugir has "shut down" in the past 5 years?
where did i read that because of questionable practices by the higher ups in cugir that the govt has taken over the factory and nothing it US bound in the near future?

Perhaps in either of the two links in my post just above?
Not in the same league as a PSL.
The PSL is more collectible. If I was to get a VEPR it would be in .308

I wish I would have bought a mag or two when I bought my parts kit. Now I can't any for less than $65.
