'97 dated Romak 2 value?
I am thinking about picking up a near mint Romak 2 from a buddy. He has had it about 8 years and has only put about 100 rds. through it. It comes with an E German ZFK 4x25 scope(with pouch eyecups and book), an unissued EG 4 mag pouch with 4 bakelite mags, and cleaning kit, and 2 black 74 mags, and about 250 rds. of ammo. He said that he thought some of the ammo was some stuff that had projectiles that were designed to tumble, that they had a ball inside the bullet or something like that. Any idea on what this package would be worth? Thanks
I'm not sure what the optic is worth.
Those early Romanians are very good, very accurate rifles, in my experience, with no Century or importer work.
The Romanian semi-auto trigger is prone to trigger slap. Add a G2 trigger. The yellow PSL-style stock sucks on that rifle, so you might as well replace that too. Then swap in a good muzzle device and you'll be set.
The bakelite mags are pretty pricey now. Maybe $25 each? The black polymers are about $10 - $15, if you watch for a sale. The ammo is about $150/1000 rounds. I'd consider $400+ for the rifle, maybe more.
All milsurp 5.45 rds were designed to tumble and fragment. They have a steel core with an air gap which puts most of the weight to the rear.
The Romak 2 is a "ban" style gun, so no bayo lug or barrel threads. It might have a thread protector that is tackwelded on, and can be carefully dremelled back off.
They were $250-$300 bitd, I sort of wish I had picked one up.
They have a correct chrome lined barrel and original receiver, so it's going to be a good shooter. In any case, it is a better gun than the current crop that Century is offering with the US made barrels.
$400 for the gun $100 for the mags, $30 for the ammo.
$530ish would be a fair price, $450-500 would be a good price.
And for the scope?
the scopes have become scarce and the price is way over what they were 10 years ago. Have seen them sell on GB or Ebay for $400+. If you get it and want to sell it cheap, let me know
