Im not up on the Romanian line, so i though I would ask this crew....
I found a brand new Romy G in the box, all matching numbers, even on the wood for $500 bucks. Has the "G" engraved on the trunion.

Is this a good deal, average, bad?

Some variables need to be considered. Including what brand receiver and who assembled the rifle. The condition of the base kit. I'd pay a small premium for a quality built G rifle over a WASR, or a neutered SAR. $500.00 is at the max top end right now. For that money, Romy AK's would have to be hard to find in your area.

As tim said, it depends on a few thugs, like who built and and how well it was done. Considering I spent just above 500 to have my g kit built (and this was back when the kits were 130 a pop), I would say the price seems about right. Most of the g kits I've seen were in pretty good shape and light years ahead of the WASRs in overall quality too.

I put a G kit togather before and I used a heavy recever (A little grinding at the trunyuns for fit. ) And it turned out to be a very nice shooter. I added a wire side folder to it from a AMD65.
I put the donkey D grip on the front and it looks very nice.

Gator

PS
I sold it a couple years ago for $450. A good numbers match kit ? Dont sell it !!

Well, after some time, I did buy it. Its a 1980 kit with all matching numbers (even the sight leaf). They had 3 brand new to pick from, all NIB from IO, a 1973, 1979, and my 1980. The 1980 one that I bought seemed to have "cleaner" components. The stamps were nicer, fit was better, everything looked and seemed smoother. I am going to take it out tomorrow to pop its cherry.

It seemed to be much better quality than the WASR ones they had for sale.

The quality of a Romy G is dependant on the quality of the kit used and the competency of the builder. I have two very well built Romy Gs that look and shoot great. Love them both.
