Anyone handload for their PSL? Got a question
I picked up a Cugir PSL last weekend, and I'm looking to load for it. I slugged the barrel and came up with .309. My question is will .308 projectiles suffice, or do I need to try something else? It sure would be nice to have the huge selection of .308 as opposed to .311.
I loaded up .308 bullets as well as some .311. My bore is also .309. The one possible problem with the .311 bullets is they are noticeably shorter than the .308 bullets. I'm guessing it's to keep their weight at 150 grs. So in order to get the proper OAL you don't end up with much bullet inside the case mouth which requires a pretty tight crimp. Alas, I haven't fired any of them.

I've pulled Comm block bullets from their steel cases and loaded them into brass and it seems to work very well using new powder and closer load weight tollerances.
Also I've beel using .310 diam 150gn. Seirra SP's thru my PSL and M-N. The load is sweet for both. PSL is grouping 1.5" at 100yds. I use IMR powder so the load I make mabey different weight from yours if you use a different powder.
Have also been kicking the idea around about tinkering with the gas system to use 174 gn BTHP rounds in it.
Here's a link to the bullets I use

What size bullet is that? Any idea what size your bore is? Does it shoot any better than say, Czech silver tip?

Are you sure those are the ones? I ask because it says they are .312. Any Idea what the bore diameter on your PSL is?

That is .311, my so called accuracy load.
I also use the 150 gr pulls that I got from Wideners, they have not had them in about a year.
I got 6k at once.
155gr .308 Hornady A-Max
Works pretty good when I do my part behind the gun and at the reload station... still trying to nail the load down but since the rifle is going to RD for a work over, I haven't been working on it in the past month.

If your into loading try them all. My Cugir 54-C wound up shooting the Hornady .312" 150 Gr. SP made for the 303 British the best. I have a goodly number of pulled .311" Milsurp bullets from Widners that shoot just so-so. Some guys have had good luck with .308 slugs but I didn't so thats why I say give them all a go and see what works best. With milsurp of any kind my rifle was around 3 to 6 inches at 100 yds and with the hand loads its likes 1.5 inches is as good as it seems to be able to do. If you do want to load for the .311 and .312 bullets be sure to use the proper sized expander ball on your resizing die as seating them into a case neck sized for .308 bullets will cause you accuracy issues. I picked up an expander assembly for the 303 British and put it into my 54R die to get things right for proper neck fit.

Mine clocks at .310 and does well with .308 when I get it right. Try a good .308 and see what happens.

In my 91/30 PU this load in under one inch all day.
Popped a tree rat at over 90 yards while he was on the move.
Oh, Norma brass.
Privi brass for the PSL
What are good powder choices for the PSL/7.62x54R?
I use IMR 4064 for .30-06 in my Garand and Springfield to imitate M2 ball specs and IMR 4350 for hunting loads in my hunting .30-06.
Seems you guys are having good luck with IMR 4320 but will I get satisfactory results with one of the IMR powders I already use? Or is 4320 that much better in the PSL?
yet to test but I've read H4895 or 3031 work alright... Varget works well. VV N130, N140, N150 all are supposed to work well but I haven't run a revised test since the last run... I found they may be better results by using .311 expander ball on .308 bullets (especially longer, deep seated bullets) and then giving the bullet a light crimp w/ a lee factory crimp tool

I just use my 91/30 PU accuracy load in my PSL.
If it works in .308 or 30-06 it will do OK in x54r.

Same bullet, but I use a similar amount of Varget for mine. ~1" 5shot groups at 100. And it actually works quite well/tracks the BDC out to 600 (which was a surprise).
