(Added Pics) Norinco 56S-3
Been looking for an AK for awhile and I just found a Norinco 56S-3 setting in a pawn shop in excellent like new shape for $649. I found out what it was on the internet They had no idea what it was but they saw Norinco on the muzzle and listed it a such. Looks like only a few hundred rounds through it. Very early model without import makes I just put down some $ to hold tell Monday.
Is this a good buy? Has one original mag and sling but no bayonet..
Thanks..

It's a good buy if it actually is a "Pre-ban" Norinco, it is worth $900+ Make sure it is though, since a lot of Mak 90's were converted back.
Also, make sure it doesn't have the infamous "third hole" Do your research.
Is it really the S-3 as noted on this page? If so, it's pretty rare and maybe worth something to hardcore Chicom collectors.

Is it the model with the reddish bakelite fixed stock?

uhh yes you stole it if it is.You found a gem and a perfect first AK.Easily worth twice what you paid for it imo depending on condition, etc.Pics when you get it,congrats on a great find
The only mark on the receiver was 56 and the serial number. I compared it to http://www.chicom47.com/Norinco/Norinco.htm . I found several early model pics and it matched them. It has the red bakelite furniture and the marks on the barrel.
Thanks I'll look for that "third hole" . It didn't have any markings on the receiver but the number 54 and the serial number in the 20xxxx

that is a steal.
Either buy it or tell me where it is so I can fly out and buy it
I paid $1300 for mine... 5 years ago...
Less than a grand, I would jump all over! Even if it WAS a converted MAK90, those are bringing 5 bones all day in my area... factor in the couple hundred bucks that Bakelite stock set is worth... 650 bucks is still a good deal!
i picked up the same one few months back........i think i paid 1100 or so.........The Early ones will not say 56s3 .........and will have tiny import marking printed on barrell
That is a great deal!
Last year, at a local gun show, I picked up a mint Polytech AKS762 Spiker for $750.00 - out the door.
There are some deals out there, when you see them, you have to pounce on them.

Its a real deal 56S-3 you have there for sure.Very nice example too.
All it said was 56 on the receiver and had Norinco 7.62 made in china on the barrel
$650 is what I paid for my early 56S-3....back in 2003.

Wow that is a smoking deal. I paid twice that for my bakelite. Congrats.
