Been looking for an AK for awhile and I just found a Norinco 56S-3 setting in a pawn shop in excellent like new shape for $649. I found out what it was on the internet They had no idea what it was but they saw Norinco on the muzzle and listed it a such. Looks like only a few hundred rounds through it. Very early model without import makes I just put down some $ to hold tell Monday.

Is this a good buy? Has one original mag and sling but no bayonet..

Thanks..

It's a good buy if it actually is a "Pre-ban" Norinco, it is worth $900+ Make sure it is though, since a lot of Mak 90's were converted back.

Also, make sure it doesn't have the infamous "third hole" Do your research.

Is it really the S-3 as noted on this page? If so, it's pretty rare and maybe worth something to hardcore Chicom collectors.

The only mark on the receiver was 56 and the serial number. I compared it to http://www.chicom47.com/Norinco/Norinco.htm . I found several early model pics and it matched them. It has the red bakelite furniture and the marks on the barrel.

Thanks I'll look for that "third hole" . It didn't have any markings on the receiver but the number 54 and the serial number in the 20xxxx

I paid $1300 for mine... 5 years ago...

Less than a grand, I would jump all over! Even if it WAS a converted MAK90, those are bringing 5 bones all day in my area... factor in the couple hundred bucks that Bakelite stock set is worth... 650 bucks is still a good deal!

That is a great deal!
Last year, at a local gun show, I picked up a mint Polytech AKS762 Spiker for $750.00 - out the door.
There are some deals out there, when you see them, you have to pounce on them.
