Where to buy AK recievers?
Also how hard is it to build up a kit?
Nodak Spud for receivers.
They don't pop together like AR-15 Legos, but if you have the requisite machine shop+skills, it can be done.
One of the biggest "problems" is that the kits no longer come with (original) barrels, so barrel must be pressed/swaged into the trunnion.
Other than that there is some riveting to do.
Ok thanks. I just got a Polytech type 56 spiker in excellent shape...however its built on a B West USA reciever. I have read about all the issues with these recievers....so I figured I would just rebuild it on a better
Also....does 922r come into play if I rebuild it?
922(r): no, as long as you don't increase the foreign parts count which you shouldn't if you replace the receiver with an NDS for example.
Dude w/ the B-West Spiker, you need to check a few details before jumping into the deep end of the proverbial pool.
Take the rifle in hand and look for a few items:
(1) The word "Imported,"
(2) A pair of holes punched thru the left side of the receiver jus' below the rail,
(3) A serial number beginning with 999.
If (1), you're good. No probs. ChiCom receiver is GTG. Do not replace.
If (2) you might have a soft receiver, certainly you have a Made-in-America frame which could be a prob.
If (3) your rifle will be toast as it is a softie and can't be saved without re-heat treating effectively.
HTH. Good luck to you.

Yes I know. Thanks for looking out tho...
1. The reciever is a 'MADE IN USA"
2. There is NO 3rd hole(USA reciever shouldnt have that anyway)
3. Not sure about the 999...but I dont think it does. What does the 999 mean?
1a. I think I want to replace it just bc of the fact that its a B West and could be soft(although I do plan on shooting 100rnds soon and see what happens. You bet im going to inspect it closely after each mag. Im not saying that I dont believe the whole soft reciever thing...but I dont see much proof of this at all. Just internet chatter. Also my reciever looks like the holes mihgt have been treated, there is clearly some discoloring around the holes(ill try and get pics).
I am not new to AKs...just this one and all the regulations and stuff dealing with imports.
Thanks!!!
A problem I had with my 999xxxx B-West frame was the ejector lug wore down. This was noticeable before the cross pin holes developed their football shapes. Excessive wear renders the rifle useless as you well know.
999 is the number of the beast, yes, hence I suspect they numbered that particular run of frames as a sort of insider joke. The joke was on us.
The "third and ("forth") hole(s) I spoke of above were punched thru to accommodate a scope rail that - I suspect - BWest never put into production.
The company made up a number of select-fire rifles for Law Enforcement purchase IIRC and those would have presented the infamous "third" of course.

i wouldnt do anything until you have a problem. you might lose value some by doing that. if your really worried about it i would have it removed and heat treated by a expert. that way you would keep some sort of originality. just a option you might not though of.

I thought about doing that...bht then I started reading that these recievers could not be heat treated because is a mild steel or something like that. I'm reading a lot of crap about these recvs.....however not one pic exists of this happinging. I also found a site where a lot of people had nothing bad to say at all.
And is it just me but when I started researching b west it seems like an awful lot of ex employees were around to say how crappy the recevs are.
Im def going to shoot it and keep a close eye on everything.
