My local FFL holder seems to think that all Chicom AK 47's are the 1.0mm receiver. I'd read somewhere that the Norinco's and Poly Tech's had the heavier 1.6 rec. on them until sometime after the '89 ban. Can someone with more knowledge than I confirm this as fact? We all know the Yugo's had the 1.6mm receiver until recently, but there seems to be questions as to the current crop as well. Thank you.
All Chinese AK's are built on the thicker stamped receiver, unless they are milled.

yep, all the chinese stamped receiver are thicker, 1.6 mm. doesn't matter if they are pre or post 89 ban. european stamped receivers are 1mm thick. as to why chinese receivers are thicker? maybe the chinese figured it would be more robust. they certainly didn't modify any of the parts, they kept the AK-47 parts, thicker barrel, heaveir bolt carrier etc.. they just put them into a stamped sheet metal receiver.
chinese are actually 1.5mm I beleive... I'll get the digital calipers out later and check.
1.5mm...
