May have come across a deal so good it's "stupid good"... I'm pretty AK knowledgeable (primarily Norinco's) and have/had a few. Mostly ban version MAC-90's and a 56-S-1 pre-ban so I know generally what they are worth.

Anyways I'm looking at a deal which includes:

- 3 pre-ban Norinco 56's NIB (with boxes)
- 3 bayonetts
- 3 slings
- 3 cleaning kits/oil bottles
- 10 30 rnd mags
- 3000 rnds ammo (about 50/50 mix of Wolf and Seller&Bellot non-corrosive

Price is $2000

IMO this is in amazing deal right?
The ammo alone is worth close to $900 and the rifles should be worth $850+ /ea right?

Now my only real question aside from general pricing is this.
Are they 56's (and if not what are they?)

I was able to see one one of them tonight (being sold as I got there but got a fair look at it) but was told that there were 3 more available to me tomorrow (stored somewhere else). He said they were all identical.
The one from tonight was a fixed stock (wood with orange bakelite pistol grip) Norinco with the triangle-66 on it and 7.62x39mm. But didn't say 56 on it anywhere like my 56-S-1.
Has the dove-tail style bayonett mount and full cleaning rod assy. Polished (chrome/bright looking) bolt carrier, and slant brake.

All #'s matching and mint cond, unfired with beautiful blueing.

Does the lack of the 56 stamp on it mean that it's possibly something else? If so what then?

Either way it looked to be a beautiful pre-ban Norinco AK. The box wasn't available with that one because they guy said he threw it away because he'd intended to keep this one for himself as his "shooter" while keeping the other three boxed as collectors.

Now I've only seen boxes for ban versions and MAC-90's and never really paid them any mind (remember MAC-90's used to be "trash" haha).
What should I be looking for in/on the boxes that can tell me anything about the rifles?
Are they SN#'d to the rifle, should there be import dates or info about their importer to be found there?

These are about all I can think of to check besides the forbidden 3'rd hole in the receiver, and matching #'s...

Oh ya odd cut receivers maybe? How do those effect values on comparable AK's and were they any pre-ban's with the odd cut?

We are supposed to meet up tomorrow (time yet to be decided) to make the transaction so I need to walk into this knowing exactly what I'm buying and just how much it is worth.

Thanks in advance for any advise everyone.

i'd go in on that deal with you...provided the merchandise isn't hot.

Oh it's definitely not hot. I don't fool with stolen property ever.
I absolutely despise thieves especially gun thieves. I think if caught they should be euthanized with the firearm they stole.

Sorry not in need of a financial partner on this one just some quick advise.

Assuming these rifles are what he says they are (and I can't help you on that one), this is an absolute steal.

If I was you, I'd probably put one of those rifles and 1,000 rounds of the ammo up on Gunbroker. You could easily recoup more than half your money back just from that, and still have two nice rifles and all the other goodies for less than $1,000.

Just curious...is this an estate sale or something like that? At this price, it sounds like the seller is just wanting to quickly dispose of things.

just look at the front trunions. if they are pre-ban 56-S rifles they should be stamped as such on the left side front trunion. even if they are converted MAKS you could make a few bucks on the deal.

How's that saying go? If it's too good to be true...

I'd definitely look those bad boys over with a fine tooth comb and get a very solid receipt.

I was told that they would be furnished with bills of sale and watched him write one out to the buyer of the one that sold last night, however he has not called me back or returned my attempts to contact him today.....So I don't know what's up now.

I looked for a 56 stamp on the left side front trunion and didn't see one on the one from last night which is the part that's striking me as odd.
The lighting was also poor where we were at but I'm also pretty sure it had a bakelite pistol grip, not smooth wood like all the 56's I'm seeing pics of. Though I could have been wrong about that. I was just trying to sort of "play it cool" and not go nuts over it in hopes that the other buyer would pass on it and leave, or at least just take that one rifle and leave so I could scoop up the other 3 that I'd been told about.
Not knowing that he was going to pull the ol' "well the rest of them aren't here" on me...

What would the bakelite grip and lack of a 56 stamp be indicative of?

I did look it over thoroughly for any MAC stampings or signs attempts to obscure or alter any stampings or marks, and found nothing.

Heck of a deal. But again. why would he sell for such a low price ? I have reservations. It comes out to like $ 500 for each preban rifle x three of them. Another $500 for the ammo. I have a feeling these are hot items.

In today's market price, all those guns and ammo would be in the $4000 to $ 5000 easy.

People selling hot guns don't let you come look at them, take some time deciding, and then come back the next day.

BOOM_STICK, it's actually MAK-90 not MAC-90.

Someone I know bought a Polytech Legend for what the original buyer bought it for. $400. This was less than a year ago, so I think it's possible.
