Just curious how many were imported by Kassnar back in the day? Recently picked up a really nice preban underfolder.

They're rare and usually priced accordingly. Just a few thousand came in. I've seen pre-ban FEGs around $1800, but in these times it might be hard to get that, and those were mint.

Quality was there in all the Hungarian imports

Pre 89 SA 85M vs post ban

Threaded
Slant break
FSB had provisions for the cleaning rod and muzzle detent
Gas block had a bayonet lug
Lower hand guard retainer had a hole for the cleaning rod
Pistol grip
Buttstock or folder

Kassnar imported the prebans
Kassnar changed the company name to KBI when the thumb hole guns came in
Both pre and post ban guns were called SA 85M, folders and stocked rifles alike

Later some of the postban guns came in with short gas tubes and gas ports cut like an AMD 65

Then the law got squirlier and the SA 2000M was imported as a single stack weapon
These rifles were de engineered to prevent them from functioning with a standard double stack magazine
Instead a proprietary 10 round single stack mag was all it would take
Some of the SA 2000M rifles also came in with short gas tubes and gas ports cut like an AMD 65

Sorry if I over answered

Hey man, that folder is beautiful. Anytime you have an AK totally made and assembled in a European AK factory, you really have something special - particularly an FEG.

I realize that this is per Michael Kassnar, but the SN's do not add up!!!
It has always been my understanding, backed by the SN's, that 4,500 (pre-89) were imported (3,000 folders and 1,500 fixed).

My KBI short gas system SA85M

Never found a decent Hungarian buttstock for it anywhere.
