Picked up this fine specimen this afternoon. It's no beauty queen now but mechanically it's good to go. Going to take it slow as I've never 922R'd one before. Thinking I just want to stay with a polymer stock set, would plum be right or wrong for this gun? I think it's either that or black. Not a fan of the rail either.

My first of many questions, are the mags any good? Came with 3, all identical and no markings.

Any and all input is welcomed.

There is only one way to find out if those mags are any good, take em out and shoot em but I'll bet they are just fine. As far as Plum if that is what you want then go for it. The SLR-95 is a ban configured AK so there are many "incorrect" parts on it (but it still is an awesome shooter) if you are trying to build some variant of a Type III clone or something so don't worry if plum is correct or not, just set it up however you like and have fun with it

If you want to keep that rail and keep it polymer then I'd just get a butt stock and put the Hogue on it, at least that's what I'd do if you want to keep it polymer. If it were me I'd throw an Ironwood stock on it but I'm a wood lover. I'll check over the FCG and polish it and see how it is after that, if it sucks we can put a G2 into it. The finish is easy as well, just repaint it with some high temp paint (that's what Arsenal does). Just looking at the pics I think that barrel looks good enough to thread as well. I just need to get my tools back from the "pay it forward" thread. Theres no detent pin hole but we can use a crush washer or locktite.

Those mag(s) look GTG and I'd get at dozen more or so from AIM.

Nice rifle, cant wait to see it.

Does the rail count towards my US parts? I think Midwest Ind. is US made right?

I guess I'd swap out the grip and stock and see if I like the rail then.

Yes the rail counts as 1 part (handguards). The Hogue grip will count as 1, the stock will count as 1, If you replace the FCG that counts as 3, and if we thread the barrel that will count as 1. Threading the barrel doesn't help with the count though as right now there is no device there. If we thread the barrel and added a foriegn part that would actually go against your count but Tapco makes a number of devices for it. Also I think it will have a Bulgarian FCG in it, unless Arsenal switched it out with it's own US one. So that would have to be swapped for your 922 count, unless you go with US floorplates and followers in your mags.

I'm not a huge polymer fan but if I were I'd keep that rail and just add a stock. I actually don't mind that rail.

I looked at Ironwoods site, not as much as I thought. Still needs to be finished but a 4 pc set starts at about $135 shipped. I could probably sell the current rail and buttstock and sling and get half of that back right? This thing would look sexy in a real light maple color.

Should I bother looking at the Manchester gun show in January for the FCG stuff and mags or should I just buy that stuff online?

I'd get the mags from AIM you won't find any place lower than them. The Hogue grip, muzzle device, and FCG can all be found from different vendors. Google searches should show you places. I think you could get them all from Cheaper than dirt. When I ddid my firends SAR a couple weeks ago I got everything for it from them just because they had everything in stock from 1 vendor.

ETA: search the EE here or online vendors for the stock. Your chepest option would be to just add the stock and keep the rail. If you want wood Ironwood is expensive but worth every penny. There's also Timbersmith wich you could get a prefinished stock set for the cost of a raw Ironwood but the quality isn't as good as Ironwood.

I'll check out AIM and see what I can come up with. I grabbed a couple types of ammo to see what it like. I got Golden Tiger and Brown Bear, it's all KTP had.

Is the front of the barrel large enough to thread for a 14x1 muzzle nut or slant brake ? can you measure it ? thanks
