Arsenal SLR-105 - FInal ETA: VIDEO UP!
Looked at a very nice Arsenal SLR-105 post-ban model for a very good price... ($400)
The fixed stock was replaced with a tapco sideforlinding stock, and has an original "Circle 10" mag...
How hard would it be to remove the muzzle device up front and put a a corredct 74 brake on it to make it preban?
No pics, but the stock pic is what I am looking at.
What would the hive say?
ETA - I picked it up today on my way to work; already have the stock on bid @ Gunbroker, so hopefully, I will get to shoot this fine piece of Eastern European AK work on the weeekend.
buy it or let me know where i can get it for that price.
that is regarded by some to be the best 74 clone made.
needs a new fsb to be "proper" but shit, for $400, i'd buy in a hearbeat
Looking at one right now... Really want to pick it up. Anyone else?

I purchased one just like the one you're considering. I then purchased a a 74 kit and installed the front sight base from the kit (now I have a bunch of spare parts). It took a few minutes, but was well worth it. Very easy to do if you have a punch set, hammer and a rubber mallet.
I'd say GO FOR IT!!!
DO IT!!!
DOOooo It !!!
Ok; I fent! Dropped $200 on it and will drop the rest on payday. Picked up a Bakelite mag for $30 as well.
Took pics of the rifle and aside the Tapco stock; the rifle is in great shape. Total price was under $600.
I also picked these two mags, I think one is Polish - the metal-lined polymer, the other one is a Bulgy Bakelite - the Bakelite mag is practically new, inside and out and getting it for $30 was criminal.

.
Back in the day I bought several of those and converted them all to "no-ban" Well I had them done by a gunsmith I should say...Just bought the correct FSB from K-Var is all. You can't tell them apart from a factory SLR105A1 that had the threaded FSB.
Already have a Bulgy FSB and FH on the way, and hope to win the stock soon, so this rifle will be in A1 configuration very soon. I am happy.
better looking pics on now:
Looks like it was barely fired.
FSB and FH inbound; stock waiting for GB auction to end.
I bought one of those six years ago for $440 NIB. Thought about selling it because I hate the postban FSB but decided to keep it and perform the threaded FSB and folding stock conversion when I move to a free state.
Let us know how hard it is to swap out the FSB.
ETA- our serial numbers are about 60 apart.
Love mine that I got from a fellow CT AR15.comer and will be doing the same when I move to a state that allows those EVIL options, Side folder, SBR

He gave me a GREAT package deal !!!!

You scored with that price, even in a "Ban" configuration. Good job! Love the pawn shop photos with the gold bracelets in the background LOL
Oh and about swapping out the stock, Arsenal sold those with the longer "American" sized stock which for me is too long and cumbersome... Arsenal/KVAR's "Warsaw Pact" size is what you probably are looking for (Or a military surplus stock).

I'm going Warsaw Pact length on the stock. Just waiting for the auction to be over (5 days to go); as for the FSB and FH; the FSB came from an Apex demilled kit and the FH came straight from KVAR. All I am doing now is waiting for the parts to show up.
OK, the FSB just came in; it cam from a parts kit that Apex sells (front portion of barrel sawed off with FSB); now my question is how to remove the FSB out of the barrel piece it came with? Don;t have a hydraulic ram to push it out, so it looks like the old "Hammer and Vise" deal, but I don;t want to mess this up; thinking of dropping ti off with a competent gunsmith and have them do the work, but dunno anyone locally that would do it. The only competent smith i know in my area is AW Petersen in Mount Dora; is a shop that's been there for a very long time and they do a good job, but damn, the last time I brought them something it took them damn near 3 months before i got my shotgun back (simple refinish and ejector spring replacement); this is definitely more straight-forward (remove postban FSB and replace with pre-ban FSB), but still concerned about how long it will take them to do it.
On the other hand, there is a new shop in my town that opened up and I dropped my MAK90 with them to do the same thing (replace post ban FSB and gas block with post ban parts), the guy claims to be an armorer for the local PD, but most of the stuff he does is ARs... I dunno; already swaeting bullets with him; gonna give him a visit tommorrow to see the progress of my MAK and if his job is G2G, then mayber I will give him my SLR to do the same job.
*sigh* THis is probably much ado about nothing, but I am naturally nervous when I give my guns to someone else to work with; I really need to set up my own shop here.

pully puller works great

Hmmm; didn't think about that one. I can probably borrow a Pulley Puller from Auto Zone... Thanks.

no problem! I bought a cheap set from Harbor Freight. Had to do a little bit of grinding to flatten out the ends though. Replace that gas block too while you have it off!
Opted to just let a professional do the work; sent it out today; I will keep the gas block as-is since i don't want to fudge with the rifle if I can avoid it. The gunsmith threw his back on the weekend, so i could not pick up my MAK from him (he was supposed to drill the pins on the gas block and FSB on my MAK), so now, he has both my AKs in his shop... I am feeling naked without my AKs.

I have the same gun and have been intending to do the conversion for a while. Let us know how it turns out, I'm close enough I might take mine to Peterson's if they do a good job on it. Also, how much do they charge for the work?
You mean AW Peterson in Mount Dora? Dang! We live close. I live down the road in Leesburg; they did some work on an old 870 I picked up for cheap and they did a wonderful job, but the wait time was ridiculous (3 months+) for a simple repark and replacing an ejector spring. I took the SLR to a local shop (Blackbriar Arms) and my MAK is currently sitting at Oakridge Guns (Orlando) to get the FSB and Gas Block drilled and pinned.
I will definitely post pics of the AKs once they get home.

Yep, same (AW) Peterson's, I'm near Orlando. I'm not familiar with Blackbriar Arms, let us know how they do. I went ahead and finally ordered a parts kit from Apex so I'll have the FSB to convert mine. I'm trying to decide if I want to try it myself or take/send it somewhere.
if you're using pull off parts, do it yourself. 99% of the time on rifles I have converted, the pins match up.

Well that's good.
Just don't have the time to do it (work most of the time has me busy as F*&%)...
Now I have a good question; I want to add a side rail mount to my 105 (converting it into an SLR-105A1R); seems that the rail attaches to one of the rear trunion pins; is it even possible, or feasible?
yes it is. Tantal use to sell them, unsure if his daughter's website has them. You may be able to find something on GB. Check out his site to find which one you need.

Thanks for the link; very informative and chock full of pics.

Got a call from Blackbriar; my SLR is ready... And I got my bakelite mags and stock int he mail today; now, the stock is not US made as i thought it was; is an actual Bulgarian plum AK74 stock painted black, but it will do until i can get an actual US made stock (so as not to fuck up the parts count).
Can't wait...

Thanks Z, that's exaclty what I need; now i have to find someone competent that will install it and maybe give my rifle a good Cera-Kote. Not that many folks in these parts that do AK work.
OK, bought another stock - a NATO lenght US Made stock, since the one I recently acquired is a Bulgarian (or Russian) Plum stock painted in black... I'll probably remove the paint off it and see how nice the color is, maybe even buy matching PG and handguards, we'll see.
I went to the shop to pick it up, but they were closed on Monday (man, they need to post their business hours on the door)
No worries, I'll pick it up tommorrow then.
Got to the shop and picked up the rifle... I decided to give my rifle a once over and to my dismay, I discover that the front sight is crooked.
FFFFUUUUU!!!!
Dammit! I am so pissed right now... The chick at the counter was totally clueless and about as useful as a doorstop.
But I kept my cool and waited for the owner to come back and gave him a very thorough explanation of the FUCK UP his gunsmith did; he agreed and reimbursed my money and noe; I'm again AK-less until my SLR105 is fixed properly; I mean, Jesus Effing Christ... I am just gonna sit here and be cool, calm and collected and not blow a fuse.. But I am running a little thin on the patience department.
it happens. Just think, it will be perfect later

So I guess you wouldn't recommend I take mine there...
I'm going to do mine myself
Just got a call from the gubnsmith; this is what he said:
He did the standard replacing of the front sight and did noticed that the sight was crooked, but he said that because the sighht was on another rifle, the sight was going to be crooked, which is somewhat right. He told me he cound bend the right to make it straight and I asked him if there was a way to fix the sight without resorting to bending, welding or buggering up the sight (or the rifle, for that matter); his reply was that he was going to try and get it straightened and that he would call me when he was done...
Now I am really worried.

I guess he does pretty decent AR work, but if you need something done to something OTHER than an AR? Take it elsewhere.
shit! just tell him to punch out the pins, make it straight, and re drill and put in bigger pins....how f'ing difficult can it be?

Just got a call from the smith; he got the FSB straight. did exactly what you said, Nictra. I'll pick it up tommorrow. Will post pics of the finalized SL when i get home.
This should serve me as a lesson.

Well, finally picked up the rifle from the shop; the rifle's finally complete and they fixed the front sight, so now, my rifle is good to go. After a little bit of frustration, the shop came through, as promised and made it all right.
here's some pics for your enjoyment...
Plum Izzy mags look good on her.

SSSSIIIIIIICCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!

FInally took Natasha to the range for some trigger time; I am please ; the rifle shot well; the sights lined up and I put the ammo where i aimed into.
Yeah! I slipped with the mag load.
Uploaded a better video.
You inspired me to change out the FSB on mine and I made the swap tonight in my garage. It wasn't too bad actually and I'm pleased with the results. As long as the sights are close when I go to the range I'll be perfectly happy. I'll get some pics in a bit, gotta go for a run.
