I am strongly considering a purchase of one of these rifles, from Centerfire. However, I will not be able to open-up the mag well right away so I was wondering if anyone has tried to use a Romanian single-stack magazine in them? also, does anyone know of a place selling them other than Centefire, or are they the cheapest retailer for them?

Can't say whether or not the Romy single stacked mags will work or not, but at one time TGI was selling some single stacked mags for these SSRs on Gunbroker. It was a while back, but you could contact TGI and see if they still have some. Just another option if the Romys don't work.

The Romy single-stack mags dont work. I tried one just before I opened mine up.

What didn't work about it? Was the mag too wide for the well, differently shaped?

Yes, the mag was slightly too wide for the magwell. But, for me anyway, it didnt matter because I intended on opening it up.

I did the how to on the Romy version single stock. Its pretty easy to open them up if its a stamped receiver. I would buy it and not worry about having more mags cause its about 3 hours if you take your time and go slow.
