can the circle 10 45 round 5.45 mags be modified to work in a bulgarian 5.56 rifle?
Just wondering if anyone has done this.
got plenty of 30s, thought a 45 might look cool.

I just got an SA M-5 so I'm interested to know as well. From the searching I've done, the follower can be changed but I haven't found any other info.
I can't recall for sure since I don't own any 223 or 556 anymore, but I thought the 5.45 was longer, so theoretically it should work just fine. Something about case contours etc though that require the different follower.

YES. it is simple to do. you need to locate some of the AR15 black mag followers. once you have them remove the follower and spring from the 5.45 mag. Take down the bullet guide hump from the original follower, but do not discard. remove the front and back "legs" off the ar follower. you want to keep some of the material on the back portion of the ar follower to give it a little tilt / angle. crazy glue or a touch of epoxy between the 2 followers install and shoot. I would advise you to experiment with the ar follower rear leg until you get a workable follower. later today i can post a picture of a converted 5.45 x 39 mag and try to get as close as exact measurement of the back of the follower for you.

Thanks!
So you just remove the legs off the AR-15 follower, grind down the palstic hump on the 5.45 follower, and glue them together basically?

yeah basically. i left approx 1/4" of the rear section on the ar mag and removed the front leg all together. I suggest you go a tad longer on the rear and road test until you find a happy medium. USE the black AR mag followers as they work, almost everyone has replaced them with something more "tactical" / works better and can probably be had from someone on the board for the coast of postage. YMMV

Couldnt you just get a spare AK 5.56mm follower and install in 45 round AK74 mag body instead?

you could, however the original black ar15 mag followers are next to nothign cheap and easy to modify. I have the 5.45 mags from way back when for $3-4 each. the followers i had a pile of so my investment was cheap to start. i did the modification according to a web thread from back in 02-04. YMMV
So will the rounds stack properly all the way to full capacity, or after 15 or 20 rounds will the head of caseings begin to ride low?

loaded them full up. ok, 29 as the follower diminished capacity by 1 round. when i did th emod i used one mag as a tester. once that worked i did another then went full tilt.I couldn't see modifying mags that would not work.
damn slick idea! thanks
could you re-up the pics if you get a chance?

In that case I'd cut some off the bottom of the original AK follower to restore full capacity.
This is what I used to do on old Chicom 5 rounders to turn them into 10 rounders, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work here.
I'm going to order a few 40s today, will post some pictures when I get them converted and a range report.
Any possibilty of pics of just the follower out of the magazine ?
