I Wonder If This Could Affect U.S. Arsenal Products?

Anyone else think we may see an end to Arsenal rifles or maybe a significant price increase to pay renewed royalty fees? I hope not on both practical and philosophical terms.
no, too much $ to be made here. If anything, they'll pay a stipend to Russia and pass the cost on to us, the consumer.
Basicly, I think this means Russia is getting pissed because they arent getting thier cut from U.S.- AK sales.

This is because Russia is very serious about intellectual property rights. In the 4 years I lived there, I never saw ANY illegal copies of Microsoft Windows, infinite numbers of illegal DVD's and CD's, or other items because they are a country that lives in strict accordance with the law.

... I'm assuming this is sarcasm?
In 2000 it was estimated that nearly 50% of Russia's economy was linked with organized crime and, as of today, Russia has one of the highest homicide rates in the world.

I must have not put enough sarcasm in my post.

Considering the parts in most builds in the US which are mostly military surplus they can't even think about the US market except maybe the most recent US made AKs which doesn't even account for much of the US market. It certainly does make it difficult to have a more US AK than we currently have though.

It seems weird they want to collect now for a design that is pushing 65 years old.
I thought the AK was a "gift" for all warsaw pact countries?
What happened to everything belonging to everybody? Isn't that what communism is supposed to be about. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs (wants)."
What's the big deal?
Oh wait, you mean that wanting to actually KEEP the things you work for, isn't actually animalistic after all?

What would be interesting is under what patent laws. My understanding is they only last so long and I'm sure 65 years is a little on the deep end of time.

I wouldn't pay them shit, if they wanted the money they should have claimed it a LOOOOONNNGGG time ago, otherwise they can shove it

Sorry. I had to make sure!
With Russia reasserting its bear claws, Bulgaria will probably give in. I bet down ithe road we will see an increase in AK prices.

This should have no significant effect on the build side of AKs. Those built by different countries during the time in which they had permissions/licensing are certainly available for demilling and selling as kits. It is already near impossible to get brand new AKs and while Russia can claim that they are misrepresented in the total international AK market that can be blamed on having an indestructable design. Since their conception AKs have been arsenaled, re-arsenaled and again and again and again. It is kind of like the circle of life except the AK never actually breaks completely down and becomes something else, it just keeps getting reborn every so often. We home builders here in the US are not the only ones. And I would be willing to bet that it wasn't that long ago Bulgaria was licensed to build AKs and may still have some leftover which it can decide if it wants to sell them or save them for their prosperity.
