changing upper hand guard

Before I destroy my gas tube, how do you install an upper handguard on the tube? The WASR that I bought had an ATI brand upper/lower HG installed. The upper is such that it fits over the flanges, blocks use of the sight and is loose. I'd like to install a polymer upper and lower of the traditional type. How do I get the upper lips into the flanges. It appears the forward flange is spot welded to the tube. Thanks, Dennis

You turn the handguard 1/2 turn so it disengages from the flanges on the tube. To install, put the HG on the bottom of the tube and turn 1/2 turn, making sure the ends of the HG are under the flanges.
If the HG is difficult to turn, put the rear of the tube in a vise.

Man I have been doing this for about 1 year and I didnt know the back of the gas tube rotated....Man Im stupid... I have been breaking them off (the wood)then usually installing the new Tapco units in its place so its another US Made Parts......God Im going to kick myself....

everything is hard until it's not.

Its to funny I had to watch a Video on you tube to realize that if you trap the back with a vise you can simply turn the wood until it comes out... Mannnn you would not believe how stupid I felt. I have only done one Traditional Ak with wood the rest have been Ar looking black guns but sine I have three gas tubes with wood in my pile I had to see and do to believe....Im still laughing at my self.......

I still have trouble taking the battery out of my cell phone & the guy at the phone store can have it out and back in,
in two seconds. D'oh!
