 AK-47 firing issues

I just got finished building my first Ak-47. It is an egyptian parts kit that i got from apex. I did the assembly and riveting all myself and it went together pretty smoothly. The first time i took it up to shoot it it fired fine for about the first 30 rounds. Then the bolt kept getting stuck in the forward position. I could get it to open after messing with it for a while and kept shooting. I shot 80 rounds through it and on 4 of the 80 the firing pin struck and left a dent but they did not go off. So i took it home and cleaned it and got the bolt to slide a little easier and i figured it just need to wear back in. The second time i went to shoot it about 40 rounds in to it the firing pin would strike the rounds but they wouldnt go off. After about ten rounds in a row of striking and not firing i decided to go back home and come to you guys for help.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Start by going thru the troubleshooting in the manual: http://www.box.net/shared/wfnjbu204s

I'd almost suspect that the bolt is locking fully forwad, the hammer pushes the bolt fully forward but doesn't have enough energy to both close the bolt and fire the primer.

With the recoil spring out at what angle does the bolt carrier close when you tilt the rifle down? Hanging up onj the hammer is ok, we care about the forward half of the bolt travel.

ok with the recoil spring removed. the bold carrier slid forward when i hit about a 15-20 degree angle. I hope that is what u were asking

Did it run all the way forward and did the bolt rotate fully closed?

Did you strip the bolt and clean any old cosmoline and gunk out?

Any burrs on the firing pin?

Did you check the headspace when you assembled the rifle?

+1

That was going to be my next question.

It's starting to sound like not enough headspace.

hss0p, how did you set the headspace when you built the rifle?
