Front sight post installation ??

I can't seem to figure out how to get my replacement sight post into the windage post. I have the "C" clamp tool and understand its use in adjusting windage, and I believe it has a notched end to turn the sight post for elevation as well..... But I can't get my new sight post to thread in. It forks at the bottom and thus is wider at the bottom than the top. I feel like I'm gonna break it or strip threads if I keep trying to jam it in there. Is there a trick to getting this in there?
I searched the topics before I posted; sorry if this is a repost. I'm frustrated as hell because I just ripped my brand new strap trying to get the button through the stiff ass leather
